Is it possible to increase bids by an amount less than the increment?

The rules state that once a bid is placed the next bid must beat that bid by at least the bid increment on the lot. There is, however, nothing that limits the amount of the bid - your bid can be any amount exceeding the next bid increment on the lot. For example, on a lot with a $1 increment, your next bid can be $1.20 over the current bid, but not less than $1 over the current bid.
