How do I use the bulk upload wizard?
The bulk upload wizard allows you to easily create many auctions at once by importing a spreadsheet with the auction data. This is an advanced feature and should only be used after careful review of these instructions.
To use the bulk upload wizard, you must create a csv style spreadsheet with the lot information.
Generating a CSV Containing Inventory
Using your favorite spreadsheet program, such as Microsoft Excel, open a new spreadsheet,
The first line of the spreadsheet must contain the names of the fields in the rest of the file. Enter the following fieldnames in the first line of your spreadsheet, with only one fieldname per column:
lotName, description, bottleSize, bottleQty, opening, reserve, lotSellPrice, lotType
Just enter the fieldnames, not the commas, in the spreadsheet.
The rest of the file should consist of a series of records. One record per item. Each record consists of several fields (those listed in the first line).
Fill in one line per inventory item. All fields are required. Fill in each field with the following information:
- lotName The name of your item as it will appear on WineCommune. No more than 200 characters.
- description A description of the item you are selling. This is the same description that you would include when posting an item through the normal process. HTML is permitted.
- lotType If this item is an auction enter 1, if it is a fixed price item, enter 3.
- Opening If this item is an auction, enter the opening bid here. If not, enter 1. No commas, $ or other symbols: 9.99
- reserve If this item is an auction, and you want to have a reserve price enter the reserve price here. If you do not want a reserve, enter 0. No commas, $ or other symbols: 9.99
- lotSellPrice If you have a Buy It Price for your item, OR, if this is a fixed price item, enter the price. If you don't want a Buy It Price or this is not a fixed price, enter 0. No commas, $ or other symbols: 9.99
- BottleSize If this item is a wine, how large are the bottles in mililiters (eg. 750, 1500, 3000), if not a wine, enter 1.
- BottleQty The number of bottles a winning bidder or buyer gets. Must be an integer.
DO NOT LEAVE ANY CELLS BLANK!
Save your data as a csv file. Most spreadsheet programs can automatically generate a tab delineated file if you choose Save as, then CSV (comma separated).
Then, goto the bulk upload wizard and follow the directions for uploading the file.
Note: All normal fees will apply when posting through the Bulk Upload Wizard including insertion, reserve and final value fees.
Common Problems
If you are having difficulty uploading your file, check to make sure each cell in the table is filled in. Also, make sure each value is in the proper format - remember, don't include any $ signs or commas in prices. Finally, make sure you saved the file as a csv file - you cannot upload an Excel or other format file.
