A Taste for Life
our 2nd annual wine tasting, dinner and auction for the American Diabetes Association (ADA)

Saturday, October 5th, 2002 6 P.M.

Ritz-Carlton San Francisco
Rated best overall restaurant in San Francisco by Zagat 2002.

Together with Therasense (a leading manufacturer of blood glucose monitoring technology helping to improve the lives of diabetics), WineCommune is proud to announce "A Taste for Life", our second annual wine tasting, dinner and auction for the American Diabetes Association (ADA) on Saturday, October 5th, 2002 at 6 P.M. at the Ritz-Carlton San Francisco.

Wines from California, France, Australia and Italy will be served at exclusive tables of eight, each hosted by a wine sommelier from a top Bay Area Restaurant. The tasting will be proceeded by hors d’oeuvres and vintage champagne, followed by a three-course meal prepared by renowned executive chef Jean-Pierre Dubray. A silent auction of both wine and other items will take place to further extend our contribution to the ADA.

Read about last year’s event here.

This year's tasting promises to be as good as, if not better, than last year's with an even finer line-up of wines including verticals of Screaming Eagle, Cheval Blanc, Penfold's Grange, Caymus Special Select, and other gems such as the '94 Harlan, and some great '82 Bordeaux. See list of tables below.

Last year, we all created a night to remember. Although this year will be a different evening, it wouldn't be the same without the participation of our WineCommune membership. Diabetes is still on the rise with 17 million people in the United States affected, and 5.9 million who don't know they will get it. Research now shows a new form of the disease called pre-diabetes, a condition present just prior to type II diabetes, where glucose levels are elevated and beginning to cause long-term damage to the heart and circulatory system. Now more than ever, this disease could affect you or someone you know. We at WineCommune have friends and family who have suffered from this disease and so we are making a pledge to try to help.

Read more about diabetes here.

You can help in three ways:

1. Attend "A Taste for Life" benefiting diabetes on October 5, 2002 and tell others about it! or,
2. Have a bottle just sitting in your cellar? Why not donate it for the tasting? or,
3. Donate other items of value for the silent auction. You can help make a huge difference!

Wines donated to "A Taste for Life" are 100% tax deductible based on the current fair market value of the wine... regardless of the original purchase price. Upon receipt of your donation, the ADA will provide a written confirmation of your gift for your tax purposes.

Even if you cannot attend the event, please consider donating a bottle for the wine tasting. Your generosity will go far in helping to make our largest donation yet to the ADA, and to improve education, research and technology for people living with and working to fight diabetes.

We can't do this without your continued support. If you've thought at all about participating in a wine tasting, going to a great dinner, or sponsoring a charity, may we suggest that it all happen in one night at "A Taste for Life"?! Even if you can’t attend the event, you can still help tremendously by telling others about it, or by making a bottle donation.

All proceeds from “A Taste for Life” will benefit the ADA. Last year’s charitable donation to the ADA was $20,000. We know we can do better. This year, we are reaching out to our WineCommune community for help. If you, or a wine collector you know can donate a bottle for the tasting, this will bring us one step further towards our monetary gift to the ADA. Other donations will be accepted and greatly appreciated. All donations are 100% tax-deductible, and will help to improve the lives of both children and adults living with this ugly disease.

Please mark your calendars for October 5th. We hope to see as many of our WineCommune audience at what will prove to be a memorable evening to fight a cause so near and dear to us.

We look forward to hearing from you, and above all, seeing you on October 5th.

Respectfully,

Julie Bishop
Director of Marketing
