Chateau Haut-Brion - Vintage - 1955 A dark ruby-colored wine with noticeable amber/rust, the 1955 Haut-Brion offers a huge, fragrant bouquet of walnuts, tobacco, wet stones, and smoky, cassis-like fruit. Medium-bodied, with extraordinary elegance and sweetness, this rich, concentrated wine exhibits no hard edges. Remarkably youthful, as well as concentrated and impeccably well-balanced, it is capable of lasting for another 10-20 years. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 10/94 High Shoulder. 1 Bottle per lot $550 - 750

Chateau Latour - Vintage - 1970 One of the top two or three wines of the vintage (Petrus and Trotanoy are noteworthy rivals), this young, magnificent Latour is still 5-10 years away from full maturity. The opaque garnet color is followed by a huge, emerging nose of black fruits, truffles, walnuts, and subtle tobacco/Graves-like scents. Full-bodied, fabulously concentrated and intense, with a sweet inner-core of fruit (a rarity in most 1970 Medocs), and high but well-integrated tannin, this enormously endowed, massive Latour should hits its prime by the end of the century and last for 2-3 decades thereafter. This will be the longest-lived and potentially most classic wine of the vintage. Cream always comes to the top. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 6/96 1 Top Shoulder. 2 High Shoulder. 1 Nicked Label. 1 Nicked Capsule. 1 Bin Soiled Label. 3 Bottles per lot $800 - 1100

Chateau Petrus - Vintage - 1989 The 1989 has a slightly more saturated color, and seems more tightly knit both aromatically and on the palate. However, this is splitting hairs, as this is another stunningly opulent, rich, full-bodied, amazingly concentrated, exotic, flamboyant Petrus that remains remarkably youthful, and in need of 7-8 more years of bottle age. Additionally, the tannins are slightly more elevated, at least from a tactile impression. However, the 1989 looks to be another 30-year wine, with extraordinary equilibrium between all of its component parts. An amazing effort! Robert Parker, Bordeaux, Third Edition, 98 Base Neck. 1 Bottle per lot $1100 - 1500

Chateau Latour - Vintage - 1990 There is no doubting the 1990 Latour is a potential candidate for the wine of the vintage. Remarkably youthful, with a deep purple color, and full-bodied, powerful, massive richness, everything is held together by high levels of tannin. Fortunately, the tannin is sweet and ripe, making evaluation easy. The finish, which lasts for 35-40 seconds, reveals layers of flavor as well as impressive purity. This backward 1990 requires another 7-10 of cellaring. It is a wine for drinking between 2005-2035. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 2/97 Original Wooden Case. 12 Into Neck. 12 Bottles per lot $4300 - 5900

Chateau Margaux - Vintage - 1990 For me, the 1990 Margaux continues to be the quintessential example of this chateau. In addition to being profoundly concentrated, its ethereal bouquet of sweet black fruits, cedar, spices, flowers, smoke, and vanilla is remarkably well-formed and intense. In the mouth, there is not a hard edge to this classic wine, which is super-concentrated, soft, silky-textured, and opulent. It displays an opaque ruby/purple color, a compelling bouquet, and exquisite layers of flavors that cascade over the palate without any notion of toughness or coarseness. The acidity is low, although sufficient enough to provide vibrancy and focus. This wine's significant tannin level is remarkably well-concealed by the wealth of fruit. Although still an infant in terms of development, this fabulous Margaux is already drinkable. There have been so many great vintages of Margaux under the Mentzelopoulos regime that it is almost inconceivable that the 1990 could outrank the 1982, 1983, 1985, 1986, and 1995, but, in my opinion, it possesses the potential. Chateau La Gomerie - Vintage - 2000 A prodigious effort, the dense purple-colored 2000 La Gomerie boasts spectacular aromas of roasted coffee, sweet, jammy black cherry and currant fruit, more tannin than normal, but a sumptuous, thick, expansive, juicy mid-section as well as finish. This terrific offering is made in a modern, cultish style aimed at unabashed hedonists. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 4/03 Original Wooden Case. 12 Into Neck. 12 Bottles per lot $850 - 1200

Chateau Valandraud - Vintage - 2000 Well, it is a spectacular wine, and having tasted it three times from bottle, I am in love with it. Dense purple-colored, with a glorious nose of espresso, cocoa, chocolate, plum, black currant, and cherry, offering a true smorgasbord of heavenly delights, this medium to full-bodied wine still shows some relatively firm tannin, but the low acidity, layered, multi-textured mouthfeel, and tremendous purity are hallmarks of the Thunevin winemaking style. However, this might be one Valandraud that actually needs 3-5 years of cellaring prior to drinking. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 4/02 6 Into Neck. 6 Bottles per lot $600 - 850

Louis Jadot - Vintage - 1990 Beaune-Chouacheux The 1990 Beaune-Chouacheux is terrific, with full body, a huge perfume of black fruits and flowers, great length, and the sweetness and rich, unctuous glycerin and chewiness that the premiers crus all exhibit. In issue 83 I intimated that Jadot"s Beaune premiers crus were dazzling. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 12/92 1- .5cm. 1- .7cm. 1- 1.2cm. 3 Bottles per lot $175 - 250

Armand Rousseau - Vintage - 1996 Chambertin This wine reveals a dark ruby color and mouth-watering aromas of smoked pork, bacon, juicy blackberries, road tar, raw meat, and a hint of eucalyptus. This block-buster is big, broad, dense, concentrated and complete. It is oily textured, full-bodied, and offers sublime layers of candied black raspberries, blueberries, violets, lilies, fresh herbs, Asian spices, leather, stones, smoke, and toast. This formidably structured and profound wine demands patience...Bravo! Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 8/98 Original Carton. 8- .6cm. 3- .8cm. 1- 1cm. 12 Bottles per lot $2700 - 3600

Armand Rousseau - Vintage - 1996 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos St-Jacques This dark-colored wine is produced from vines that were planted in 1920 and 1921. Profound aromas of red cherries, blackberries covered in chocolate, morel and porcini mushrooms, road tar, and toasty oak lead to an awesome explosion of densely packed fruit on the palate. Layers of juicy and plump cherries, minerals, stones, and fresh herbs are intertwined with vanilla-imbued oak in this expressive and feminine beauty. It possesses extraordinary depth, concentration, and structure. This full-bodied, velvety-textured, refined, and focused wine also possesses an extremely long and delineated finish. Vincent Girardin - Vintage - 1999 Chassagne-Montrachet Clos De La Truffiere The impressive 1999 Chassagne-Montrachet Clos de la Truffiere is an earth and oak-scented offering with a gorgeously intricate, medium-bodied character. Guigal - Vintage - 1989 Cote Rotie La Turque The 1989 La Turque's smoky, licorice, and black-raspberry aromas, as well as its phenomenal richness make for an extraordinary tasting experience. There is almost the essence of black-cherries in the 1989, which is already gorgeous to drink...The wine spends 42 months in new small oak casks and is bottled without fining or filtration. The 1989 single vineyard Cote Roties are magnificent...All of them possess fabulous concentration, sweet, expansive personalities. They offer extraordinary flavor intensity, impeccable purity, and awesome length and complexity. The yields from the three vineyards - La Mouline, La Landonne, and La Turque - rarely exceed two tons per acre. Moreover, no one harvests any later. That the wines spend nearly three and one-half years in 100% new oak tells you something about the level of extraction Guigal is able to achieve. Guigal - Vintage - 1991 Cote Rotie La Landonne The 1991's bouquet offers huge, smoky, new saddle leather, licorice, Asian spice, and meaty, cassis scents. Black in color, with layers of richness, huge body, massive extraction, and a phenomenal finish, it is another legend from Marcel Guigal. It will be the least precocious of the 1991s, needing until the turn of the century to open and develop; it should keep for 25-30+ years. Guigal - Vintage - 1999 Cote Rotie La Mouline An extraordinary effort, it offers a smorgasbord of aromas and flavors. Scents of violets, raspberries, blackberries, roasted espresso, balsamic vinegar, and pepper tumble out of the glass. It is unctuously-textured, full-bodied, and fabulously concentrated with a tremendous purity and seamlessness that must be tasted to be believed. A wine of singular greatness, it can be drunk young, but should be at its finest between 2005-2020. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 6/03 2- .3cm. 2 Bottles per lot $600 - 800

Falesco - Vintage - 1995 Montiano The 1995 Montiano (1000 cases produced) is stunning. Made from 100% Merlot from vineyards planted on the hillsides of Lazio (at a relatively high altitude of 980 feet), this unfined/unfiltered, profoundly rich red wine is a knock-out. The color is a saturated purple, and the nose offers up glorious aromas of smoked meats, cassis, chocolate, and vanillin. Spectacular richness, combined with beautifully integrated acidity, tannin, and wood, make for an opulently-textured, multi-layered, stunningly proportioned wine of exceptional purity and richness. With marvelous intensity, but no sense of heaviness, this fabulous wine provides a strong case for the potential that exists in southern Italy. Yields from the 30-acre vineyard averaged 2.8 tons of fruit per acre. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 8/97 4 Into Neck. 6 Base Neck. 10 Bottles per lot $275 - 375

Chambers Rare Tokay Rosewood Vineyards My notes essentially read the same every year, even though the bottlings are non-vintage and I taste the most recent releases. Consistency and greatness are the norm at this Rutherglen winery. The average age is 7-10 years for the regular cuvees, about 70 years for the grand cuvees, and the ancient rare cuvees date back to soleras from 1890. The Muscadelle (Tokay) reveals caramel, toffee, fig, prune, raisiny notes, an incredible, unctuous texture, and amazing zesty acidity which keeps it from being cloying. It is redundant to keep repeating the same tasting notes, so readers will have to take my word for it ... this is one of the world’s most remarkable dessert wines, and is worth every effort to latch on to a half bottle or so. Hundred Acre Vineyard - Vintage - 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon may be the Le Pin of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. This is a lascivious, powerful, smoky sex pot of great fruit intensity, purity, and voluptuousness. The texture is unctuous, the fruit level remarkable, and the wine gloriously pure, rich, and bursting with black currant and sweet cherry fruit as well as nicely integrated, toasty French oak. It will drink well for 15+ years. This exciting debut effort possesses an individualistic, distinctive style ... all to the credit of this brash newcomer, a tightly-spaced vineyard situated on the Silverado Trail, north of St. Helena, near the Rombauer Vineyard. This is an impressive effort fashioned by Philippe Melka, who believes this site has unlimited potential. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 8/02 Original Wooden Case. 3 Bottles per lot $375 - 500

Tablas Creek - Vintage - 2003 Panoplie The limited production, 300-case cuvee of 2003 Panoplie is California’s answer to the famed Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape Hommage a Jacques Perrin. A blend of 69% Mourvedre, 21% Grenache, 7% Syrah, and 3% Counoise, this inky/blue/purple-colored offering begins slowly in the glass, but after five minutes of swirling and coaxing, it roars to life, offering backward but promising notes of black truffles, creosote, blackberries, cherries, cassis, road tar, and melted licorice. Boasting a full-bodied, super-concentrated mouthfeel as well as considerable tannin, delineation, and structure, it is a wonderfully knit, personality-filled wine that was aged completely in neutral demi-muids prior to bottling. Chateau Lafite-Rothschild - Vintage - 1995 The 1995 Lafite-Rothschild (only one-third of the harvest made it into the final blend) is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, and 8% Cabernet Franc. The wine was showing spectacularly well when I tasted it in November, 1997. It exhibits a dark ruby purple color, and a sweet, powdered mineral, smoky, weedy cassis-scented nose. Beautiful sweetness of fruit is present in this medium-bodied, tightly-knit, but gloriously pure, well-delineated Lafite. The 1995 is not as powerful or as massive as the 1996, but it is beautifully made with outstanding credentials, in addition to remarkable promise. Chateau Cos D’Estournel - Vintage - 1996 The 1996 possesses an opaque purple color, as well as pure aromatics consisting of cassis, grilled herbs, coffee, and toasty new oak. Massive in the mouth, and one of the most structured and concentrated young Cos d'Estournels I have ever tasted, this thick, structured, tannic wine has closed down significantly since bottling. It requires 7-8 years of cellaring, and should last for 30-35 years. It is a fabulous Cos, but patience is required. Chateau Comtesse De Lalande Pichon-Longueville - Vintage - 1996 The 1996 Pichon-Lalande is just as awesome from bottle as it was from multiple cask tastings. The color is a saturated ruby/purple. The nose suggests sweet, nearly overripe Cabernet Sauvignon, with its blueberry/blackberry/cassis scents intermixed with high quality, subtle, toasty new oak. Deep and full-bodied, with fabulous concentration and a sweet, opulent texture, this wine was singing in full harmony when I tasted it in January. Given the wine's abnormally high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon, I would suspect it will close down. It possesses plenty of tannin, but the wine's overwhelming fruit richness dominates its personality. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 4/99 Base Neck. 1 Double Magnum per lot $400 - 550

Exceptionally rich, nuanced, and precise, it is a magnificent expression of Cabernet Sauvignon that offers the elegance of a Bordeaux with the power and potency of Napa Valley Cabernet. Sine Qua Non - Vintage - 2003 Sublime Isolation The 2003 Sublime Isolation is a blend of 44% Chardonnay, 37% Roussanne, and 19% Viognier, all from the Alban vineyard. Aromatically restrained by SQN standards, with coaxing it offers up notes of honeyed pineapples, minerals, and flowers, but it is much more timid than its younger sibling. Rich, pure, and deliciously textured in the mouth, it reveals more on the palate than in its aromas, which should develop more nuances with additional bottle age. Sadly, production of this brilliant dry white proprietary wine is a minuscule 250 cases. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 6/05 2 Into Neck. 2 Bottles per lot $125 - 175

Chateau Montelena - Vintage - 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate One might call the opaque purple-colored 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate “locked and loaded.” Fashioned from a blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Cabernet Franc (which saw about 25% new oak), it exhibits a tremendously pure, but tightly-knit bouquet of creme de cassis, leather, forest floor, minerals, and licorice. Dense, with layer upon layer of concentrated black fruits intermixed with spice and wood, it displays full body, great purity, low acidity, and a solid lashing of heavy duty tannin in the blockbuster finish. It’s great stuff, clearly the finest Montelena Cabernet Sauvignon since 1997, but patience will be essential. Chateau Petrus - Vintage - 1990 The phenomenally rich, well-endowed 1990 Petrus has been magical from the first time I tasted it in cask. The color is a dense, jammy plum/purple. The wine possesses a knock-out nose of black fruits intertwined with aromas of toasty new oak, caramel, and flowers. Massively rich and full-bodied, with slightly lower acidity and sweeter tannin than its older sibling, the 1989, the 1990 is an extraordinarily rich, seamless wine with layers of flavor, and a finish that lasts for nearly 45 seconds. Although it is remarkably accessible because of its voluptuous texture, this wine has not begun to develop secondary nuances. It should hit its peak in 10-15 years, and last for three decades. Chateau Petrus - Vintage - 1993 A candidate for the most concentrated wine of the vintage, this 1993 exhibits a saturated purple/plum color, and a sweet nose of black fruits, Asian spices, and vanilla. Huge and formidably rich, this powerful, dense, super-pure wine is a tour de force in winemaking. For a vintage not known for wines of this immense richness and length, this brawny, splendidly endowed Petrus possesses low acidity and high tannin, suggesting that 8-10 years of cellaring are required. This should be a 30-year wine, as well as the vintage's longest-lived effort. Very impressive! Chateau Lafite-Rothschild - Vintage - 1999 The 1999 Lafite Rothschild sports an engraved 1999 on the bottle along with an eclipse to mark that significant historical event of August, 1999. It is a quintessential offering from Lafite Rothschild. This prodigious wine is both elegant and intensely flavored, and almost diaphanous in its layers that unfold with no heaviness. An opaque ruby/purple color is accompanied by a complex bouquet of lead pencil, graphite, cedar, creme de cassis, toast, and vanilla. It is medium-bodied, with extravagant layers of richness yet little weight, and a finish that is all sweetness, ripeness, and harmony. This extraordinary Lafite increasingly appears to be a modern day clone of the majestic 1953. A mere one-third of the crop made it into the grand vin! Chateau Lafite-Rothschild - Vintage - 2000 Well, well, well - Lafite Rothschild does it again. Ever since manager Charles Chevalier was transferred from his beloved Sauternes property of Rieussec (also owned by the Rothschilds) to Lafite in 1994, there has been a succession of profound wines to emerge from this noble estate. The 2000 Lafite Rothschild, a blend of 93.3% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6.7% Merlot (only 36% of the crop made the grade) has an opaque ruby/purple color, followed by an extraordinary aromatic expression of liquid minerals/stones interwoven with the tell-tale graphite notes, mulberry, black currants, caramel, and tobacco. In the mouth, it is remarkably light on its feet, but somehow seems to pack intense flavors into layer upon layer of fruit and richness that cascade over the palate. A compelling wine, with extraordinary precision, great intensity, and a seamlessness in spite of what are obviously elevated levels of tannin, this wine was provocatively open and beautiful when tasted in January and February, but I am sure it will soon close down. The finish lasted a whopping 72 seconds! This is utterly fascinating stuff. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 4/03 2 Into Neck. 2 Bottles per lot $700 - 900

Chateau Lafite-Rothschild - Vintage - 2002 A brilliant offering and a candidate for wine of the vintage, this is classic Lafite that reminded me somewhat of the 1976, although the vintage conditions were completely different. This is a medium-weight, quintessentially elegant style of Lafite with notes of lead pencil shavings/graphite along with black currants, plums, and crushed rocks/mineral. Wonderfully pure, dense, with a deep ruby/purple color and loads of fruit, definition, and a long finish, this is a brilliant, elegant Lafite Rothschild that builds incrementally in the mouth and has more power and density than it initially seems. Sine Qua Non - Vintage - 2002 Syrah Just For The Love Of It A dead-ringer (at least aromatically) for Guigal’s single vineyard Cote Rotie La Mouline, the 2002 Just For The Love of It is the greatest California Syrah I have yet tasted. A one-thousand case blend of 96% Syrah, 2% Grenache, and 2% Viognier, it is nearly equal parts Alban, Bien Nacido, and Stolpman fruit with a small amount from both Shadow Canyon and White Hawk. It boasts a provocative perfume of creme de cassis, toast, blackberries, licorice, barbecue spice, and exotic floral scents. Extremely full-bodied, with fabulous intensity, great purity, awesome length, and a finish that lasts over a minute, this classic is a must purchase. Already accessible, it will drink well for 10-15 years. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 8/04 2- 1.5cm. 2 Bottles per lot $200 - 300

Dal Forno Romano - Vintage - 1995 Amarone The opaque purple-colored 1995 Amarone is nearly perfect. It is reminiscent of super-concentrated blackberry liqueur infused with incense, smoke, and minerals. Full-bodied, dense, and chewy, this huge offering possesses remarkable purity and liveliness for its size and intensity. Amarone is an acquired taste, given its size as well as earthy, tarry characteristics. Certainly this wine reaches new levels of extract and richness, yet is dry, well-balanced, and, because of its extravagant richness, able to hide the whopping 16.5% alcohol it routinely possesses. This is the product of a true genius. It should drink well for a minimum of two decades. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 8/00 Into Neck. 1 Bottle per lot $250 - 350

Dal Forno Romano - Vintage - 1997 Amarone The outrageous 1997 Amarone (17.5% alcohol) was aged 28 months in 100% new French oak. An inky/purple color is followed by sumptuous aromas of blueberry liqueur intermixed with truffle, graphite, camphor, and vanilla scents. This remarkable offering is immensely full-bodied and super-concentrated, with great purity, symmetry, and length. It is the stuff of legends! How long will it last? Who knows? Certainly this wine is capable of evolving for 15-20 years. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 12/02 Into Neck. 1 Bottle per lot $250 - 350

Penfolds - Vintage - 1982 Grange Hermitage Although huge, phenomenally rich, and pure, the 1982 appeared less concentrated than the monster 1981. Nevertheless, this is no shy wine. Its weight and richness rival anything from California. However, the 1982 possesses more poise and, dare I say it, elegance than other Grange vintages. The color remains an opaque ruby/purple, and the nose offers up sweet aromas of berries, vanilla, toast, and herbs. Intense, full-bodied, unctuously-textured, and moderately tannic, this youthful tasting Grange Hermitage will benefit from another 3-4 years of cellaring; it should keep for at least 15 more years. Chateau Beaucastel - Vintage - 1996 Chateauneuf-Du-Pape Blanc Roussanne Vieilles Vignes The 1996 Chateauneuf du Pape Roussanne Vieilles Vignes was extremely closed, but it is loaded with extract. Bodegas Sierra Cantabria - Vintage - 2001 Finca El Bosque The debut release of the 100% Tempranillo cuvee from a 3.66 acre vineyard planted in 1973, the 2001 El Bosque is spectacular. It spent 16 months in new French oak, and was bottled unfiltered. Sadly, there are only 50 cases for the USA. An opaque purple color is accompanied by a gorgeous bouquet of graphite, black currants, licorice, espresso, and chocolate. This full-bodied, dense, concentrated red requires another 2-3 years of cellaring because of its elevated tannin, but it should last for 10-15 years. It is very impressive. This winery consistently makes the pages of this publication’s best buy section regardless of vintage. Chateau Petrus - Vintage - 1973 In the first issue of THE WINE ADVOCATE (which was sent free of charge since no one had any interest in a publication by someone named Robert Parker), this was one of my top picks in what was otherwise a critical look at the diluted 1973 vintage. I ended up buying a half case of the 1973 Petrus (for $15 a bottle!). The wine was so delicious, as well as surprisingly concentrated for a 1973, that I drank all of it in its first decade of life. In a recent blind tasting, this magnum still revealed the wine's marvelous fruit and precociousness. Although it does not possess the power and richness of a great vintage, it is an outstanding Petrus. It offers a surprisingly intense, spicy, sweet, mocha, and black-cherry-scented nose, medium to full body, admirable fruit and purity, and a long, lush, super-soft finish displaying a trace of herbs and tea. This generously-endowed, velvety-textured wine has been fully mature for nearly two decades, yet it exhibits no signs of decline - rather amazing! Angelo Gaja - Vintage - 1998 Conteisa From the Barolo appellation, the 1998 Conteisa displays a distinctive bouquet of black cherry jam mixed with vitamins, smoke, iron, minerals, and spicy oak. In the mouth, earth, truffle, lead pencil, and espresso-infused cherry flavors make an appearance. Deep, rich, and full-bodied, with moderate tannin and power, this impressive offering requires 2-3 years of cellaring, and should age well for two decades. Domaine Du Pegau - Vintage - 1999 Chateauneuf-Du-Pape Cuvee Reservee A powerful, concentrated 1999 Chateauneuf du Papes was produced at Chateau Pegau. The dense ruby/purple-colored 1999 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Reservee boasts a powerful bouquet of pepper, garrigue, black fruits, and earth. Full-bodied and expansive, with sweet tannin giving it a more open-knit, accessible style than most young vintages of Pegau, this is a wine to drink while waiting for the 1998 and 1995 to become fully mature. Like all of this estate's red wines, it was bottled with neither fining nor filtration. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 12/01 Second Bottling. 2- .7cm. 2 Bottles per lot $50 - 75

Chateau Beaucastel - Vintage - 1985 Chateauneuf-Du-Pape One of the most consistent wines, and among the easiest Beaucastels to assess, the 1985 was delicious before bottling, after bottling, and has routinely offered an opulent, rich, savory style of wine with a spicy, earthy, black fruit, animal-scented nose, gamey, ripe, chewy, concentrated flavors, considerable body, low acidity, and a lush, velvety-textured finish. There are no signs of color degradation or loss of fat. It should continue to drink well for at least another decade. A natural beauty! Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 2/96 1- 1.3cm. 1- 2.7cm. 2- 3cm. 1- 3.5cm. 1- 3.8cm. 1 Slight Signs Of Seepage. 6 Bottles per lot $325 - 450

Chateau Beaucastel - Vintage - 1989 Chateauneuf-Du-Pape The sumptuous 1989 possesses an intense black/ruby/purple color. The nose offers a veritable smorgasbord of jammy cassis, Provencal herbs, Asian spices, fruitcake, coffee, and hickory wood. The wine is sensationally concentrated and well-balanced, with soft tannin and enough acidity to provide balance and freshness. Full-bodied, with layers of fruit and glycerine, it can be drunk now because of its lavish richness, yet it should age for 20+ more years. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 2/96 2- 3cm. 4- 4.5cm. 3- 6.5cm. 3 Corroded Capsules. 3 Signs Of Seepage. 9 Bottles per lot $900 - 1200

Chateau Pavie-Macquin - Vintage - 1989 I have been extolling the virtues of these wines since the late eighties. Extremely old vines, organic farming, and some of the lowest yields in Bordeaux produce densely-colored, highly-extracted, exceptionally pure and elegant wines that possess a Burgundian-like texture and complexity. The 1989 continues to be one of that vintages sleepers. The color remains a youthful ruby/purple. The bouquet offers copious quantities of black-raspberry and cassis fruit nicely touched by stony/mineral and floral scents. The spicy, vanillin component is subtle. This full-bodied, highly-extracted, elegant wine should reach full maturity in 2-3 years; it will last through the first 15 years of the next century.
