Chateau Margaux - Vintage - 1986 The 1986 Margaux continues to be the most powerful, tannic, and muscular Margaux made in decades. One wonders if the 1928 or 1945 had as much power and depth as the 1986? The black/ruby/purple color reveals no sign of age. The reluctant nose offers up aromas of smoky, toasty new oak and blackcurrants, as well as a few flowers. The wine is mammoth, with extraordinary extract, superb balance, and a frightfully tannic finish. A Margaux of immense stature, it is made in a masculine, full-bodied style that is in complete contrast to the 1990. It should prove nearly immortal in terms of aging potential... Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 10/94 1 Into Neck. 2 Base Neck. 3 Very Slightly Bin Stained Labels. 1 Nicked Capsule. 3 Bottles per lot $1000 - 1400 |

Chateau Cheval Blanc - Vintage - 1990 The wine possesses all the hallmarks of a hot, ripe year - low acidity, super-ripe, nearly over-ripe fruit, an opulent, oily texture, great sweetness of fruit, and a long, voluptuously-textured finish. In the most recent tasting, I almost mistook it for Le Pin given its showboat-like nose of coconut, toasty new oak, and gobs of smoky, blackcurranty, and cherry fruit. The wine is full-bodied, rich, and concentrated, with layers of extract, and well-concealed tannin. I am increasingly convinced that this is the most profound Cheval Blanc since the legendary 1982. Because of its fleshy, low-acid character, the wine can be drunk, but it is still youthful, with a deeper purple color than the more mature-looking 1989. It should offer exotic opulence for at least another 15-20 years. A compelling Cheval Blanc! Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 2/94 3 Into Neck. 3 Bottles per lot $2000 - 2700 |

Chateau Margaux - Vintage - 1990 For me, the 1990 Margaux continues to be the quintessential example of this chateau. In addition to being profoundly concentrated, its ethereal bouquet of sweet black fruits, cedar, spices, flowers, smoke, and vanilla is remarkably well-formed and intense. In the mouth, there is not a hard edge to this classic wine, which is super-concentrated, soft, silky-textured, and opulent. It displays an opaque ruby/purple color, a compelling bouquet, and exquisite layers of flavors that cascade over the palate without any notion of toughness or coarseness. The acidity is low, although sufficient enough to provide vibrancy and focus. This wine's significant tannin level is remarkably well-concealed by the wealth of fruit. Although still an infant in terms of development, this fabulous Margaux is already drinkable. There have been so many great vintages of Margaux under the Mentzelopoulos regime that it is almost inconceivable that the 1990 could outrank the 1982, 1983, 1985, 1986, and 1995, but, in my opinion, it possesses the potential. Chateau Montrose - Vintage - 1990 In several tastings last year, the 1990 Montrose clearly revealed its incredible complexity and massive character. I was especially pleased when, at a large lecture I gave in London at the end of March, the 1990 Montrose, in very tough company (Cheval Blanc 1989 and 1990, Pichon-Lalande 1989 and 1990, Certan de May 1989 and 1990), proved the over-whelming choice of a crowd of nearly 400 British tasters. The wine is remarkably rich, with a distinctive nose of sweet, jammy fruit, liquefied minerals, new saddle leather, and grilled steak. In the mouth, the enormous concentration, extract, high glycerin, and sweet tannin slide across the palate with considerable ease. It is a huge, corpulent, awesomely-endowed wine that is still relatively approachable, as it has not yet begun to shut down and lose its baby fat...The 1990 needs 10 more years of cellaring; it should last for 25-30, possibly 40-50 years. Elio Altare - Vintage - 1990 Barolo La Morra Altare's super-ripe, rich, voluptuously-textured 1990 Barolo caresses the palate with gobs of sweet fruit, high glycerin, and a creamy richness. Soft and fat in its rich, chewiness, the wine possesses marvelous intensity, as well as considerable tannin, most of which is buried beneath lavish quantities of jammy fruit judiciously touched by toasty vanillin new oak. Taylor - Vintage - 1977 Vintage Port The 1977 has consistently been at the top of my list of vintage ports in this great vintage, although the Dow, Graham, and Fonseca are equally splendid. It is a mammoth, opaque, statuesque vintage port of remarkable depth and power, but is should not be touched before 2000. Fonseca - Vintage - 1994 Vintage Port One of the most spectacular 1994s, this opaque purple-colored wine is an exotic, flamboyant, ostentatious port. Extremely fragrant and pungent, with a flashy display of jammy cassis, pepper, licorice, and truffles, this port is an attention-grabber. Awesomely rich, and full-bodied, with superb length, richness, and overall balance, it possesses a huge mid-palate, layers of flavor, an unctuous texture, and a blockbuster finish. Everything is in place, with the brandy and tannin well-integrated, even concealed by the masses of fruit and glycerin. This wine will drink fabulously well at age ten, but keep for up to thirty years. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2035. Roger Sabon - Vintage - 1999 Chateauneuf-Du-Pape Cuvee Prestige The 1999 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Prestige (14.5% alcohol) reveals a dark plum/garnet color as well as a gorgeously complex nose of licorice, pepper, black cherries, and cassis. As the wine sits in the glass additional nuances develop. It is a seductive, open-knit, layered, succulent, fleshy effort to enjoy now and over the next 12-15 years. Domaine De La Janasse - Vintage - 2004 Chateauneuf-Du-Pape Chaupin The old vine Grenache cuvee, the 2004 Chateauneuf du Pape Chaupin, ended up with about 15.1% alcohol, which is pretty high considering the vintage conditions. A wine of great finesse and elegance, this deep ruby/purple-colored effort has a big, sweet nose of crushed cherries, creme de cassis, raspberries, and spring flowers. The gorgeous ripeness, multi-dimensional texture, and tremendous finish all augur well for a wine that is going to be one of the longer-lived wines of the vintage, drinking well for 12-15 years. It is delicious already. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 2/07 Original Wooden Case. 1- .5cm. 11- .7cm. 12 Bottles per lot $450 - 600 |

Domaine De La Janasse - Vintage - 2004 Chateauneuf-Du-Pape Vieilles Vignes Possibly better, but certainly not as charming as the Chaupin or the regular bottling of Chateauneuf, the 2004 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes has the most tannin and rigidity at present, and needs 3-4 years of bottle age before it will be drinkable. It should keep for 15 or so years. Dense dark purple to the rim with a beautiful nose of flowers, blueberries, black raspberries and cherries, this is intense, full-bodied wine with moderately high tannins and brilliant symmetry as well as purity. Domenico Clerico - Vintage - 2001 Barolo Ciabot Mentin Ginestra The richly-colored 2001 Barolo Ciabot Mentin Ginestra opens with an unmistakable Ginestra nose of menthol, eucalyptus, spices and minerals. It is dense and structured, showing plenty of ripe dark cherry fruit, licorice, tar and toasted oak flavors, with exceptional length and substance on the palate, and closing with an inviting, beautiful, lingering finish that makes you want to come back to the wine time and again. Clerico’s Ciabot Mentin Ginestra was one of the first Barolos that really captivated my attention and for me it remains this producer’s most representative wine. It is a superb achievement and one of the highlights of the vintage. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 10/06 Original Carton. 12 Into Neck. 12 Bottles per lot $700 - 950 |

Rotllan Torra - Vintage - 2001 Tirant Priorat A prodigious effort, the 2001 Tirant is a 9,000-bottle cuvee made from 30% Grenache (90-100 years old), 25% Carignan (90-100 years old), 25% young vine Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Syrah, and 10% Merlot. Fermented in large oak foudres and aged 12 months in new French oak, it will be bottled with neither fining nor filtration. Inky/purple-colored to the rim, it boasts a spectacular bouquet of blueberries, blackberries, and the region’s classic crushed stone minerality. This full-throttle yet remarkably elegant 2001 possesses tremendous intensity and texture as well as layers of flavor, but comes across as not over the top, overripe, or overly heavy. The 60-second finish reveals more noticeable tannin than the other cuvees. Give it 1-2 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 10-15. The 2001 Tirant is indeed a special wine. Numanthia Termanthia - Vintage - 2002 Toro A Toro on steroids, the 2002 Termanthia emerges from a high altitude (2,625 feet), old vine Tempranillo vineyard that produced only one half ton of fruit per acre. Sadly, there are less than 125 cases produced. Its deep saturated ruby/purple color is followed by a sweet nose of smoke, melted licorice, white chocolate, creme de cassis, and kirsch liqueur. Full-bodied and dense, with sweet tannin, copious glycerin and body, and a long, heady, seamless, potent finish, it is a candidate for the Toro of the vintage. Silesian - Vintage - 1998 Grenache/Shiraz Scribblers The 1998 Scribblers, an ancient vine blend of 88% Grenache and 12% Shiraz aged in primarily used French oak, is a stunning effort. Aromas of chocolate, earth, kirsch liqueur, and exotic flowers are followed by a full-bodied, dense red that tastes nearly sweet because of the abundant glycerin. This limited cuvee (200 cases) should be drunk over the next 5-7 years. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 8/03 12 Into Neck. 12 Bottles per lot $250 - 350 |

Silesian - Vintage - 1998 Shiraz/Cabernet Exhibiting a deep plum/ruby color, the 1998 Silesian is a blend of 80% Shiraz (120-year old vines) and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon (30-year old vines) aged 18 months in 100% French oak (about 20% new). Low yields of 1 to 1.5 tons of fruit per acre have resulted in a backward, concentrated, impressive offering not yet revealing all it possesses. Aromas of bacon fat, cassis, blackberries, and white flowers as well as a hint of tar reluctantly emerge from the bouquet. Fleshy and earthy, with outstanding purity, richness, and overall symmetry, it is a complex, more evolved example of this cuvee. It should age nicely for another 12-15 years. Hazyblur - Vintage - 2002 Shiraz Baroota Revealing a dense purple color, tremendous ripeness, and sensational extract as well as glycerin, the 2002 Shiraz Baroota is fashioned from 25-year-old vines, and spent time in a combination of 40% French and 60% American oak, much of it new. That’s apparent in the perfume of roasted vanilla intermixed with white chocolate, blackberries, and currants. It also possesses a lavishly rich flavor profile, a huge texture, massive fruit, and a long finish. The tannin component is well-concealed by the wine’s glycerin and boisterous alcohol (15%). This opulent, hedonistic 2002 boasts great richness, intensity, and length. How will it age? Torbreck - Vintage - 2002 Shiraz Run Rig The 2002 Run Rig (97% Shiraz and 3% Viognier aged in 100% new French oak) represents the essence of old vine Barossa fruit. Extraordinarily opulent and rich, but playing it closer to the vest than the 2001, it gets my nod as one of the most remarkable wines made in either the Southern or Northern Hemisphere. An inky/purple color is accompanied by a sumptuous bouquet of apricots, honeysuckle, black raspberries, blackberries, licorice, and a hint of roasted meats. The wood has been soaked up by the wine’s extraordinary concentration. Fashioned from four sectors of Barossa (Maranaga, Koonunga Hill, Moppa, and Greenock), it spent 30 months in primarily new oak, and was bottled without fining or filtration. Torbreck - Vintage - 2003 Grenache Les Amis The 2003 Les Amis is a 300-case cuvee of 100% Grenache from a vineyard planted in 1901. I have had a lot of fun serving the 2002 blind to guests, and for my taste, this cuvee is the reference point for old vine Grenache produced in Australia. It is extraordinarily elegant for a wine of such power, richness, and intensity. Amazingly delineated, with a dense ruby/purple color as well as a gorgeously sweet nose of smoke, spice box, black cherry liqueur, creme de cassis, licorice, and lavender, it offers impressive balance, purity, opulence, and persistence. This phenomenal wine is both powerful and refreshingly elegant. A magnificent achievement for Torbreck, it should drink well for 15+ years. De Lisio - Vintage - 2004 Shiraz The profound 2004 Shiraz was cropped at a measly .5 tons of fruit per acre, and aged almost entirely in new French oak. It is a killer wine in a killer line-up from De Lisio in 2004. Dense blue/purple to the rim, this highly extracted (but not overly extracted) effort reveals notes of crushed rocks, blueberries, blackberries, camphor, lead pencil shavings, and spicy oak. Boasting great purity, a full-bodied, opulent texture, huge richness, but no sense of pruniness or flabbiness given its precision and refreshing structure, this is a well-balanced, potentially complex McLaren Vale blockbuster. It should drink well for 15+ years. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 10/05 Original Carton. 6- .7cm. 6 Bottles per lot $250 - 350 |

Chateau Montelena - Vintage - 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate While the 2002, which was quite extroverted right before bottling, has shut down, the 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is still open-knit, although I suspect it will probably close down as well. Philip Togni - Vintage - 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon Not surprisingly, Togni’s 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate has put on weight, and is performing even better out of bottle than it did from cask. Its inky/purple color is accompanied by classic aromas and flavors of creme de cassis, black currants, blackberries, dried herbs, smoke, barbecue spice, licorice, and tapenade. The wine is full-bodied, pure, and concentrated, with firmly structured tannin. While our culture prizes immediate gratification, these beauties require bottle age, and I rarely touch a Togni Cabernet Sauvignon before age 8 or 10. The 2003 requires another 7-8 years of cellaring, and should last for three decades or more. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 12/05 Original Carton. 12 Into Neck. 12 Bottles per lot $800 - 1100 |

Martinelli - Vintage - 2000 Chardonnay Martinelli Road Vineyard Readers looking for a grand cru Chablis-like white should check out the steely, liquid minerality of the 2000 Chardonnay Martinelli Road. It reveals some tropical fruit notes, but the crisp acidity and high-toned mineral notes make for an intriguing, distinctive, full-bodied, intense Chardonnay. It should drink well for 5-6 years. Chateau Lafite-Rothschild - Vintage - 1998 In a less than perfect Medoc vintage, it has been spectacular since birth, putting on more weight and flesh over the last year. This opaque purple-colored 1998 is close to perfection. The spectacular nose of lead pencil, smoky, mineral, and black currant fruit soars majestically from the glass. The wine is elegant yet profoundly rich, revealing the essence of Lafite's character. The tannin is sweet, and the wine is spectacularly layered yet never heavy. The finish is sweet, super-rich, yet impeccably balanced and long (50+ seconds). Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 4/01 Original Wooden Case. 12 Bottles per lot $3100 - 4100 |

Chateau Mouton-Rothschild - Vintage - 1998 Like many of its peers, the 1998 has filled out spectacularly. Now in the bottle, this opaque black/purple-colored offering has increased in stature, richness, and size. A blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc (57% of the production was utilized), it is an extremely powerful, super-concentrated wine offering notes of roasted espresso, creme de cassis, smoke, new saddle leather, graphite, and licorice. It is massive, with awesome concentration, mouth-searing tannin levels, and a saturated flavor profile that grips the mouth with considerable intensity. This is a 50-year Mouton, but patience will be required as it will not be close to drinkability for at least a decade. Chateau Clos De L’Oratoire - Vintage - 2000 The vinification is classic Stephan von Neipperg and Stephane Derenoncourt. Undoubtedly the finest effort this property has yet produced, the black-colored 2000 offers up sexy notes of espresso, chocolate, Asian spices, black cherry liqueur, and blackberries. Opulent, chewy, and powerful, this deep, full-bodied wine has layers of ripe fruit, huge power, yet a classic, well-delineated style. A brilliant wine. Chateau Gruaud-Larose - Vintage - 2000 This saturated bluish-black/purple-colored wine seems at first closed and broodingly backward. In the mouth, it is dense, textured, full-bodied, pure, yet, at the same time, closed. This wine is large-sized, with high tannin but equally high extract and richness. The wine will require patience, and seems to me to be the best effort Gruaud Larose has put forth since their sumptuous 1990. Chateau Leoville-Poyferre - Vintage - 2000 Wow, this wine has really come on strong. A brilliant effort, it boasts an opaque purple color in addition to a gorgeously sweet nose (make that explosive nose) of blackberries and creme de cassis intermixed with minerals, smoke, and earth. The 2000 is opulent, full-bodied, and much more accessible than either of its two Leoville siblings, Leoville Las Cases or Leoville Barton, with low acidity, sweet tannin, and a layered, sumptuous finish. It continues to improve dramatically and looks to be a great success, rivaling the brilliant 1996 and 1990. Chateau Monbousquet - Vintage - 2000 From an unheralded terroir, this Monbousquet was made from extremely low yields of 28-30 hectoliters per hectare. Aged sur lie and bottled unfined and unfiltered, it exemplifies proprietor Perse's enormous efforts. Black and blue to the rim, this wine represents the essence of this terroir. Its saturated black/purple color is accompanied by extraordinary aromatics of sweet blackberries, chocolate, coffee, incense, new saddle leather, and vanilla. Remarkable intensity, lively acidity, and abundant tannin provide definition and grip. This is the most intense, muscular, and biggest Monbousquet made to date, and that is saying something considering the 1998 and 1999! So be prepared, it is remarkable wine. Chateau Pavie - Vintage - 2000 Give Gerard Perse credit. People thought his numerous assurances that 2000 was the greatest Pavie ever produced were premature as well as arrogant. However, after tasting this extraordinary blend of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon (made from low yields of 28-30 hectoliters per hectare) six separate times in 2003, it is unquestionably one of the most monumental wines Bordeaux has ever produced. Bottled in March, 2003, about nine months later than other 2000s, the color is an opaque purple, and the bouquet offers up notes of liquid minerals, blackberries, cherries, and cassis intermixed with spice box, cedar, and white flowers. On the palate, it exhibits a massive display of richness and extract, yet with pinpoint delineation and vibrancy as well as a 60+ second finish, this is the kind of phenomenal wine that Perse's critics were afraid he might produce - a no-compromise, immortal wonder that represents the essence of one of Bordeaux's greatest terroirs. Life is too short not to own and consume the 2000 Pavie. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 4/03 Original Wooden Case. 12 Bottles per lot $3500 - 4500 |

Chateau Pichon-Longueville Baron - Vintage - 2000 A spectacular effort, this is a profound Pichon Baron and clearly my favorite vintage of this wine since the 1989 and 1990. An inky purple color offers up notes of barbecue spices intermixed with new saddle leather, creme de cassis, melted licorice, creosote, and a hint of vanilla. The wine is full-bodied, tremendously concentrated, with sweet tannin and a seamless finish that goes on for close to one minute. This wine has great purity, tremendous texture, and fabulous upside potential. This is a prodigious 2000! Chateau Rol Valentin - Vintage - 2000 This is Eric Prissette's most impressive vintage to date. The wine has developed beautifully in cask, and out of bottle is a gorgeously seductive, full-bodied, heady, perfumed style of wine, with a dense purple color and a sweet nose of blackberries, cassis, licorice, coffee, and toast. Layered, deep, and chewy, with considerable body, noticeable structure, and both muscle and delineation, this is a large-scaled Rol Valentin that should age effortlessly, yet be approachable in two to three years. Chateau Calon-Segur - Vintage - 2001 I suspect this 2001 will shut down (as most young Calon-Segurs do), although it appears more forward and evolved than the huge, backward, but totally dormant 2000. The plum/ruby-colored 2001 reveals aromas of damp earth, cranberries, cherries, herbs, and forest floor. While lighter than its older sibling, it is medium-bodied, elegant, and should emerge from its post-bottling sleep in 4-5 years, and drink well for 14-15. Chateau Lascombes - Vintage - 2001 The 2000 was the finest Lascombes produced in over three decades, and the 2001 continues the great success this estate is enjoying under the guidance of Yves Vatelot (of Chateau Reignac) and Dr. Alain Raynaud (Chateau Quinault l’Enclos). A blend of 55% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Petit Verdot, it spent 18 months in cask (4 on its lees), and was bottled unfiltered. A dense ruby/purple color is accompanied by ripe aromas of spring flowers, blueberries, blackberries, and cassis. Medium-bodied, stylish, and elegant, with sweet tannin, impressive concentration, tremendous persistence as well as flavor intensity, and a 40+ second finish, this noble claret should be at its finest between 2005-2016. Medium-bodied, firm, muscular, and virile, it is a candidate for long term cellaring. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 6/04 Original Wooden Case. 12 Bottles per lot $900 - 1200 |

Chateau Comtesse De Lalande Pichon-Longueville - Vintage - 2001 A distinctive bouquet of violets, soy, pepper, blackberries, cassis, and tree bark gives this 2001 a singular style. This dense ruby/purple-colored blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, and a whopping 14% Petit Verdot exhibits plenty of structure, wonderful sweetness, a closed style, but a rich, textured, persistent character. The unusually large percentage of Petit Verdot gives the wine more structure and less initial charm. This beauty needs some time in the cellar. Chateau Latour - Vintage - 1975 Cream always comes to the top, and so it is with Latour. Given enough time, Latour always seems to emerge as the leader of the Pauillac first-growths. The 1975 appears to be one of the few sure bets among the relatively hard, disappointing 1975 Pauillacs. The color remains a healthy dark ruby, opaque garnet. The nose offers up classic walnut, cedar, minerals, tobacco, and cassis aromas. Although this full-bodied wine is still excruciatingly tannic, I detected plenty of glycerin, extract, and richness, which give me cause for optimism. Nevertheless, it will always be a wine with a firm, tannic edge. Drinkable if decanted several hours in advance, this wine should be cellared until the turn of the century and drunk during the following three decades. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 2/96 3.4cm. Chateau Cheval Blanc - Vintage - 1982 This wine has proven to be one of Bordeaux's modern day legends. Absolutely spectacular for its first 7-8 years after bottling, the wine has gradually begun to reveal more delineation, structure, and tannin...It exhibits a thick, opaque garnet color with light amber at the edge. The nose, which was ostentatious earlier in its life, still offers up significant amounts of roasted fruit, coffee, melted chocolate, and decadently rich, sweet black fruits. This is an exotic full-bodied, moderately tannic, massive example of Cheval Blanc noted for its sheer opulence and intensity. However, I find the wine more structured and delineated today than it was a half dozen years ago. It appears ready for a long evolution... Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 12/94 Base Neck. Chateau Lafite-Rothschild - Vintage - 2001 The 2001 Lafite Rothschild’s deep, saturated plum/purple color is accompanied by lead pencil liqueur-like notes intermixed with sweet red and black currants, plums, and cedar. This blend of 86.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13.5% Merlot is a classic example of Lafite. Extremely elegant, medium-bodied, with intense concentration, richness, and sweet tannin, it appears to be on a rapid evolutionary track, at least in comparison to recent Lafite vintages that have been far more backward and powerful. The classy 2001 should be at its finest between 2007-2020. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 6/04 Into Neck. 1 Double Magnum per lot $650 - 850 |

Chateau Lafite-Rothschild - Vintage - 2003 A modern day version of the 1959 Lafite, the 2003 Lafite Rothschild was bottled in mid-May, 2005 after achieving 12.9% natural alcohol – hardly an astonishing figure given the vintage’s weather conditions. A combination of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot, it represents a ripe version of the essence of Lafite-Rothschild. Dense purple-colored, with classic notes of graphite intertwined with melted licorice, creme de cassis, smoke, and flowers, it reveals extraordinary richness, opulence, power, purity, intensity, and viscosity. Whether this wine will close down or not is questionable as it is somewhat atypical given its sweetness and softness. Chateau Lascombes - Vintage - 2003 In less than five years this property has emerged as one of the appellation’s up and coming stars thanks to the infusion of money from the American conglomerate, Colony Capital, as well as the braintrust that now oversees the winemaking, Yves Vatelot (of Reignac fame) and the internationally renowned oenologist, Michel Rolland. The dark plum/ruby-hued, open-knit 2003 offers a big, sweet nose of barbecue smoke, plum liqueur, creme de cassis, flowers, new saddle leather, and damp earth. Loads of black fruits, a full-bodied palate impression, low acidity, and a savory, expansive mouthfeel suggest it can be drunk in 2-3 years, or cellared for 15+. Chateau Pavie - Vintage - 2003 The 2003 Pavie (7,080 cases; 13.5% alcohol) is closest in style to the 2000, but slightly more evolved and exotic. Its dense plum/purple color is accompanied by an extraordinary perfume of charcoal, creme de cassis, melted licorice, espresso roast, and blackberries. The wine, which hits the palate with a dramatic minerality, comes across like a hypothetical blend of limestone liqueur intermixed with black and red fruits. With massive depth, richness, and body, this tannic 2003 should be forgotten for 4-5 years, then enjoyed over the next four decades. The integration of acidity, tannin, and wood is flawless, and the wine is incredibly pure, rich, and intense. Kudos to Gerard Perse, who is trying, in a more modern fashion, to recreate the glories of such ancient Bordeaux vintages as 1921, 1929, 1945, 1947, 1949, 1959, and 1961. From my perspective, he comes as close to that goal as anyone in Bordeaux. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 4/06 6 Into Neck. 6 Bottles per lot $750 - 1000 |

Chateau Leoville-Barton - Vintage - 2004 This is an impressively endowed vin de garde that should age effortlessly for 20-30 years. How Anthony Barton continues to fashion uncompromisingly primordial Bordeaux that are always among the biggest and densest of all the St.-Juliens is beyond me, but he does it year in and year out. Moreover, when it’s time to set the price, he appears to have the consumer foremost in his mind. The 2004 is a classic Leoville-Barton meant for long aging. Concentrated, with loads of smoke, creme de cassis, forest floor, and earthy notes emerge from this impressive, but oh, so backward wine. Louis Jadot - Vintage - 1999 Clos De Vougeot The sweet perfume, talcum powder, freshly cut flower, and candied cherry-scented 1999 Clos Vougeot (domaine) is a chewy-textured, medium to full-bodied wine. Guigal - Vintage - 2001 Hermitage Blanc Ex Voto A stunning effort, the 2001 Hermitage Ex-Voto blanc is an 8,000-bottle cuvee produced from 50 and 90-year old vines in Les Murets and l’Ermite vineyards; it will only be made in the greatest vintages. Aged in 100% new oak for 18 months, it is a blend of 95% Marsanne and 5% Roussanne. This fabulous white Hermitage ranks alongside Chapoutier’s limited cuvees of Le Meal, l’Ermite, and l’Oree. Guigal’s 2001 Hermitage Ex-Voto offers up stupendous aromas of white peaches, truffles, quince, and a liqueur of stones. This amazing white should drink well young, yet last 2-3 decades. Scarecrow - Vintage - 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon Any debut wine that is this impressive requires research. The story goes as follows: In 1945, the famed John Daniel, Jr., who made so many historically great wines at Inglenook, convinced a neighbor of his, J. J. Cohn, to plant 80 acres of Cabernet vines, and the fruit became a component of Inglenook’s series of great Cabernet Sauvignons. Cohn, who owned the property and planted the vineyard at the insistence of John Daniel, had a prominent career in Hollywood as chief of production at MGM, where he played a role in the making of such movies as “Ben Hur,” “Mutiny on the Bounty,” and his favorite movie apparently, “The Wizard of Oz,” to which the Scarecrow label pays tribute. The 2003 Scarecrow (471 cases, all from the Rutherford area of Napa) was bottled unfined and unfiltered. The man behind this wine today is the grandson of J. J. Cohn, Bret Lopez, and his winemaker is Celia Masyczek, who first became well-known working at Staglin. Much of this blend still comes from the old dry-farmed Cabernet Sauvignon vines planted in 1945 by J. J. Cohn. This inky purple-colored wine has an extraordinary nose of sweet black cherry jam intermixed with licorice, spice box, and cedar. It has sensational richness, but the purity, elegance, and overall nuance of this wine are what set it apart and give it a very distinctive character all its own. This is a fabulous Cabernet Sauvignon and another terrific 2003 that can be drunk now or cellared for 15-20 or more years. Screaming Eagle - Vintage - 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon The 2003 has been in bottle for over a year and continues to be a beautiful wine, dense ruby/purple in color with wonderful purity of creme de cassis. It is that black currant liqueur purity, richness, and depth that is one of the shining characteristics of this wine. Extraordinarily pure, the wine is full-bodied, opulent, and concentrated, but still young and primary. There is plenty of tannin underlying the wealth of fruit and, if anything, the wine seems to have firmed up since I had it last year. Quilceda Creek - Vintage - 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon contains 3% Merlot and 1% Cabernet with the wine sourced from the Champoux, Klipsun, and Taptiel Vineyards. It was aged for 22 months in 100% new French oak. There are 3400 cases produced, most of it sold through the winery’s mailing list and the rest in a handful of markets. Opaque purple-colored, it delivers a remarkable array of aromas including pain grille, violets, pencil lead, truffle, Asian spices, black currant, and blueberry. This leads to a lustrous, layered, velvet-textured wine with gobs of spicy, ripe black fruits and beautifully integrated oak, tannin, and acidity. The long, pure finish goes on for well over a minute. It will evolve for a decade and drink well through 2045. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 8/07 2 Into Neck. 2 Bottles per lot $350 - 450 |

Taylor - Vintage - 1945 Vintage Port Nearly as sublime as the '48, this is a majestic wine in its own right, with a superb concentration of fruit and a firm structure. Deep, dark ruby with a garnet edge, ripe raisin, almond and cedar aromas, full-bodied, with masses of ripe grape and almond flavors and medium tannins that tickle your palate on the finish. Built to age for centuries but amazing to drink now. Wine Spectator, 89 Into Neck. Bin Stained And Slightly Torn Label. Cracked Wax Capsule. 1 Bottle per lot $700 - 1000 |

Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou - Vintage - 1995 This wine is of first-growth quality, not only from an intellectual perspective, but in its hedonistic characteristics. More open-knit and accessible than the extraordinary 1996, Ducru's 1995 exhibits a saturated ruby/purple color, followed by a knock-out nose of blueberry and black raspberry/cassis fruit intertwined with minerals, flowers, and subtle toasty new oak. Like its younger sibling, the wine possesses a sweet, rich mid-palate (from extract and ripeness, not sugar), layers of flavor, good delineation and grip, but generally unobtrusive tannin and acidity. It is a classic, compelling example of Ducru-Beaucaillou that should not be missed. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2025. Chateau L' Eglise-Clinet - Vintage - 1995 One of the vintage's most awesome wines, L'Eglise-Clinet's 1995 has been fabulous from both cask and bottle. The color is opaque purple. The wine is closed aromatically, but it does offer a concoction of black raspberries, kirsch, smoke, cherries, and truffles. Full-bodied and rich, with high tannin, but profound levels of fruit and richness, this dense, exceptionally well-delineated, layered, multidimensional L'Eglise-Clinet only hints at its ultimate potential. This looks to be a legend in the making. I could not get over the extraordinary texture of this wine in the mouth. Intensity and richness without heaviness - a tour de force in winemaking! Anticipated maturity: 2008-2030. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 2/23/98 Pages 2-25 6 Into Neck. 2 Very Slightly Bin Stained Labels.. 6 Bottles per lot $650 - 900 |

Chateau Leoville-Las Cases - Vintage - 1995 If it were not for the prodigious 1996, everyone would be concentrating on getting their hands on a few bottles of the fabulous 1995 Leoville-Las-Cases, which is one of the vintage's great success stories. The wine boasts an opaque ruby/purple color, and exceptionally pure, beautifully knit aromas of black fruits, minerals, vanillin, and spice. On the attack, it is staggeringly rich, yet displays more noticeable tannin than its younger sibling. Exceptionally ripe cassis fruit, the judicious use of toasty new oak, and a thrilling mineral character intertwined with the high quality of fruit routinely obtained by Las Cases, make this a compelling effort. There is probably nearly as much tannin as in the 1996, but it is not as perfectly sweet as in the 1996. The finish is incredibly long in this classic. Only 35% of the harvest was of sufficient quality for the 1995 Leoville-Las-Cases. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2025.Robert Parker,The Wine Advocate, 2/23/98 Pages 25-2 6 Into Neck. 1 Nicked Label. 6 Bottles per lot $700 - 950 |

Chateau Comtesse De Lalande Pichon-Longueville - Vintage - 1995 It is an exquisite example of Pichon-Lalande with the Merlot component giving the wine a coffee/chocolatey/cherry component to go along with the Cabernet Sauvignon's and Cabernet Franc's complex blackberry/cassis fruit. The wine possesses an opaque black/ruby/purple color, and sexy, flamboyant aromatics of pain grille, black fruits, and cedar. Exquisite on the palate, this full-bodied, layered, multidimensional wine should prove to be one of the vintage's most extraordinary success stories. Paul Jaboulet Aine - Vintage - 1997 Hermitage La Chapelle ...The moderately intense bouquet exhibits plenty of ripe blackberry and cherry fruit, in addition to spicy, mineral characteristics. There is considerable weight and volume, but the wine is tight, and nearly impenetrable, leaving an impression of a large, deep, four-square monolith in need of 7-10 years of cellaring - at the minimum. This is an outstanding Hermitage La Chapelle that will have at least three decades of positive evolution. Paul Jaboulet Aine - Vintage - 1998 Hermitage La Chapelle This estate's flagship wine, Hermitage La Chapelle, merits its world-renowned reputation. The outstanding, elegant 1998 Hermitage La Chapelle's dark plum/purple color is followed by scents of new saddle leather, black currants, blackberries, and underbrush. In the mouth, the wine reveals sweet tannin, medium to full body, excellent depth, and an intriguing smokiness. Domaine De La Janasse - Vintage - 1998 Chateauneuf-Du-Pape Chaupin The 1998 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Chaupin (14.5% alcohol) is a voluptuous, opulently-textured, blockbuster with terrific fruit purity, and gorgeous aromas of roasted herbs, kirsch liqueur, blackberries, and Asian spices. The palate impression is one of sweetness because of the wine's high glycerin and ripe, jammy fruit. The chewy, long finish lasts for 40+ seconds. It can be drunk now, but readers should save a bottle for drinking in about a decade. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 10/00 5- 1.1cm. 1- 1.3cm. 6 Bottles per lot $225 - 300 |

Domaine Du Vieux Telegraphe - Vintage - 1998 Chateauneuf-Du-Pape La Crau Just beginning to blossom, the 1998 is, for me, the finest Vieux-Telegraphe made in twenty years (since the 1978). A spectacular effort, it boasts a deep ruby/purple color and huge concentration, but it was very difficult to assess until a few months ago. I may be committing infanticide as most tasters should give this wine another 3-4 years of cellaring, and drink it over the following 15-20. Marcassin - Vintage - 2002 Pinot Noir Blue Slide Vineyard The 2002 Pinot Noir Blue Slide Ridge, which I questioned last year because I thought it was picking up some volatile acidity, tasted superb. It offers black raspberry, blueberry, violet, and subtle damp forest floor notes, beautiful acidity that buttresses its superb richness, intensity, and ripeness, medium to full body, and a stunning finish. This Pinot has done a complete turnabout in bottle and is showing fabulously well, at the same time making me feel like a knucklehead for my comments last year. Marcassin - Vintage - 2002 Pinot Noir Marcassin Vineyard The profound 2002 Pinot Noir Marcassin Estate always reminds me of a top-notch Clos de la Roche from a domaine such as Ponsot. Its extraordinary nuances, amazingly complex, rich, broad palate, and spectacular finish suggest it should drink well for well over a decade. Marcassin - Vintage - 2002 Pinot Noir Three Sisters Vineyard The 2002 Pinot Noir Three Sisters’ fragrant nose of flowers interwoven with blueberries and forest floor is reminiscent of a grand cru from the Cotes de Nuit. Marcassin - Vintage - 2002 Chardonnay Marcassin Vineyard Not surprisingly, the 2002 Chardonnay Marcassin Vineyard is tight, but has come on like gang busters and is certainly a remarkable effort. Tasting like a prodigious Chevalier-Montrachet or Corton-Charlemagne, it exhibits wonderfully subtle notes of nectarine, hazelnut, crushed rock, white currants, and a touch of smoke and earth. Full-bodied with great acidity, this glorious effort may be the Chardonnay of the vintage. It should drink well for at least a decade. Chateau Margaux - Vintage - 1995 Bottled very late (November, 1997), the 1995 has continued to flesh out, developing into one of the great classics made under the Mentzelopoulos regime. The color is opaque ruby/purple. The nose offers aromas of licorice and sweet smoky new oak intermixed with jammy black fruits, licorice, and minerals. The wine is medium to full-bodied, with extraordinary richness, fabulous equilibrium, and hefty tannin in the finish. In spite of its large size and youthfulness, this wine is user-friendly and accessible. This is a thrilling Margaux that will always be softer and more evolved than its broader-shouldered sibling, the 1996. How fascinating it will be to follow the evolution of both of these vintages over the next half century. Chateau Mouton-Rothschild - Vintage - 2003 Backward, powerful, and extremely tannic, the dense purple-colored 2003 Mouton-Rothschild, a blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot, fashioned from yields of 28 hectoliters per hectare, with a finished alcohol of 12.9%, improves dramatically with aeration. With full-bodied, meaty, powerful, dry flavors as well as a huge finish, this high class wine should be at its finest between 2012-2040+. During its sojourn in barrel, it reminded me of a hypothetical blend of the 1982 and 1986 Moutons, but since bottling, it appears different, and even more tannic than those two vintages. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 4/06 6 Into Neck. 6 Bottles per lot $1700 - 2300 |

Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 4/06 Into Neck. 1 Magnum per lot $250 - 350 |
