Chateau Margaux - Vintage - 1947
"I was surprised at just how good the 1947 is because I had never been that impressed with most of the Medocs from that vintage. Among the first-growths in 1947, it is superior to Lafite and Latour, and just behind the great Mouton. Quite perfumed, rich, and full bodied, the 1947 Margaux is capable of another decade of evolution. Moreover, there is none of the volatile acidity or harshness that often creeps into many of the Medocs from that year." Robert Parker, Bordeaux, 3rd Edition, 1/98
Mid Shoulder. Bin Soiled Label. Very Slight Signs Of Seepage.
1 Bottle per lot $500 - 700

55605 $350.00 $416.50
5 Chateau Cheval Blanc - Vintage - 1955
"Superbly focused, with an outstanding concentration of fruit. Deep, dark ruby-garnet, with intense tobacco and slightly minty aromas; full-bodied, with very concentrated, rich tobacco, coffee and fruit flavors and a long finish." Wine Spectator, 2/91
Mid Shoulder. Bin Soiled Label.
1 Bottle per lot $475 - 650

Chateau Lafite-Rothschild - Vintage - 1959
"The 1959 is unquestionably the greatest Lafite-Rothschild that has approached full maturity. It remains to be seen whether vintages such as 1982, 1986, and 1990 will reach a similar height. The super-aromatic bouquet of flowers, black truffles, cedar, lead pencil, and red fruits is followed by one of the most powerful and concentrated Lafites I have tasted. Medium to full-bodied, velvety-textured, rich, and pure, it is a testament to what this great estate can achieve when it hits the mark. This youthful wine will last for another 30 or more years." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 10/94
Mid Shoulder. Bin Soiled Label. Slightly Torn Label. Torn Capsule.
1 Bottle per lot $1100 - 1500

55605 $950.00 $1,130.50
8

Chateau Latour - Vintage - 1959
"Dark garnet with an amber edge, the 1959 Latour reveals a touch of volatile acidity in the nose, along with aromas of melted caramel, tobacco, and jammy red and black fruits. As the wine sat in the glass, notes of minerals, coffee, spice, and underbrush emerged. There is still copious tannin in the finish (I am not sure it will ever be fully resolved), but this sumptuous, complex, fragrant, super-rich Latour cuts a broad swath across the palate..." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 6/00
3.8cm. Very Slightly Bin Soiled Label. Imported By Harveys Selections.
1 Magnum per lot $4200 - 5700

14022 $2,200.00 $2,618.00
10 Chateau Leoville-Las Cases - Vintage - 1959
"Slightly sweeter, riper, and richer when juxtaposed with the 1961, the ruby/garnet-colored 1959 exhibits a roasted character in the nose, as well as more fruit, and a spicy, fleshy finish." Robert Parker, Bordeaux, 3rd Edition, 98
1-5cm. 1- 6cm. 1 Slightly Bin Soiled Label. 1 Bin Soiled Label. 1 With Tears In Label. 1 Torn Capsule.
2 Magnums per lot $800 - 1100

21192 $1,100.00 $1,309.00
11 Chateau Lynch-Bages - Vintage - 1959
"This is a superlative wine. Such consistent brilliance was not again evident until the succession of super performances that began in 1982." Robert Parker, Bordeaux, 3rd Edition, 1/98
2 Mid Shoulder. 2 Bin Soiled Labels.
2 Bottles per lot $275 - 375

42895 $700.00 $833.00
12

Chateau Mouton-Rothschild - Vintage - 1959
"I am always blown away by the 1959 Mouton, one of the three greatest Moutons made in the last thirty-five years (1982 and 1986 being the others). Every time I have this wine it is undeniable that Mouton made a richer, more persuasive wine in 1959 than in 1961. Astonishingly young and unevolved, with a black/purple color, the wine exhibits a youthful nose of cassis, minerals, and new oak. Exceptionally powerful and super-extracted, with the fruit supported by high levels of tannin and some lusty quantities of alcohol, this mammoth, full-bodied Mouton-Rothschild should continue to evolve for another 20-30 years. It may well be a 100-year wine!" Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 10/94
2 High Shoulder. 2 Slightly Bin Soiled Labels. 1 Slightly Nicked Labels.
2 Bottles per lot $2500 - 3400

22959 $2,000.00 $2,380.00
13

Chateau Latour - Vintage - 1961
"...remarkably unevolved and backward...lavish quantities of sweet, jammy fruit. There is great density and concentration to the wine...copious quantities of rich black fruits, damp earth, leather, and spicy wood did not go unnoticed. This full-bodied, monumental wine tastes like syrup of Cabernet. The port-like, unctuous, chewy finish is to die for. If you are fortunate enough to have magnums stashed away, no matter what your age, this wine will undoubtedly outlive you." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 10/94
1 Very Top Shoulder. 1 High Shoulder. 2 Slightly Bin Soiled Labels.
2 Bottles per lot $3400 - 4600

21216 $3,000.00 $3,570.00
14

Chateau Petrus - Vintage - 1966
"Extremely decadent and rich, with masses of thick, earthy chocolate flavors. Very rich yet balanced. Much rounder than most 1966s." Wine Spectator, 2/91
High Shoulder. Slightly Bin Soiled Label.
1 Bottle per lot $1300 - 1700

21192 $1,000.00 $1,190.00
15 Chateau Lafite-Rothschild - Vintage - 1970
"The first sip has the sweetness of maturity and bottle-age, fairly full-bodied, silky, delicate yet mouth-filling, great length, beautiful aftertaste, with tannin and acidity to prolong it's life." Great Vintage Wine Book
5.4cm. Bin Soiled Label.
1 Double Magnum per lot $650 - 850

87930 $850.00 $1,011.50
16 Chateau Lynch-Bages - Vintage - 1970
"I have had nearly two cases of this wine and have consistently rated it in the low to mid-nineties. It is a classic Pauillac, more like a down-scaled version of Latour than the poor man's Mouton as it is often called. It reveals a fabulously saturated opaque color (only Latour can match Lynch Bages for color saturation in the 1970 vintage) with no amber at the edge. The nose offers up scents of cedar, saddle leather, smoked meat, fruitcake, tobacco, and spices. Although youthfully rich and tannic, this massive, thick wine has always been supple enough to be considered close to maturity. The finish goes on and on. The 1970 Lynch Bages can be drunk now and over the next 20 years. It is one of the greatest wines from this estate in the last 30-40 years." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 6/96
2 Into Neck. 2 Slightly Bin Soiled Labels.
2 Magnums per lot $425 - 600

21192 $600.00 $714.00
17 Chateau Petrus - Vintage - 1970
"The 1970 Petrus has developed magnificently over the last 4-5 years. Tight and reserved early in life, it has blossomed into a true blockbuster. This massive, highly-extracted, full-bodied, jammy, thick, unctuously-textured wine possesses a huge, spice, tobacco, black-cherry, mocha-scented nose. It is a real turn-on. The wine is fully mature, but it has at least 20 years of life remaining. A spectacular Petrus, it is now superior to the 1971, which out-performed it for nearly two decades. Owners of this wine have a true nectar in their cellars." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 6/96
High Shoulder. Slightly Bin Soiled Label.
1 Bottle per lot $1300 - 1700

21192 $1,200.00 $1,428.00
18 Chateau Beychevelle - Vintage - 1971
5.5cm. Bin Soiled Label. Slightly Torn Label. Very Slightly Protruding Cork. Cracked Wax Capsule.
1 Double Magnum per lot $50 - 75

81797 $125.00 $148.75
19 Chateau Mouton-Rothschild - Vintage - 1973
4.2cm. Slightly Bin Soiled Label. Very Slightly Corroded Capsule.
1 Magnum per lot $600 - 800

61796 $550.00 $654.50
20 Chateau Latour - Vintage - 1975
"Cream always comes to the top, and so it is with Latour. Given enough time, Latour always seems to emerge as the leader of the Pauillac first-growths. The 1975 appears to be one of the few sure bets among the relatively hard, disappointing 1975 Pauillacs. The color remains a healthy dark ruby, opaque garnet. The nose offers up classic walnut, cedar, minerals, tobacco, and cassis aromas. Although this full-bodied wine is still excruciatingly tannic, I detected plenty of glycerin, extract, and richness, which give me cause for optimism. Nevertheless, it will always be a wine with a firm, tannic edge. Drinkable if decanted several hours in advance, this wine should be cellared until the turn of the century and drunk during the following three decades." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 2/96
1 Very Top Shoulder. 3 Top Shoulder. 3 High Shoulder. 1 Mid Shoulder. 8 Slightly Bin Soiled Labels. 3 Very Slightly Corroded Capsules.

87930 $1,500.00 $1,785.00
21

Chateau Lynch-Bages - Vintage - 1975
"A tannic vintage, particularly for the Médoc; this is drinking surprisingly well. Shows aromas of ripe berries and mushroom, with hints of tobacco. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a long, rich finish." Wine Spectator, 07
3 Into Neck. 2 Base Neck. 1 Top Shoulder. 6 Slightly Bin Soiled Labels.
6 Bottles per lot $300 - 425

46781 $375.00 $446.25
22 Chateau Pontet-Canet - Vintage - 1975
"A good, solid, slightly rustic 1975 with a well-developed toasty, cedary, caramel-and-tobacco-scented bouquet, Pontet-Canet lacks the tremendous grip and size of the best 1975 Pauillacs, but has good fruit, and a firm, long, alcoholic finish. The best Pontet-Canet of the seventies?" Robert Parker, Bordeaux, 3rd Edition, 1/98
3 Base Neck. 1 Very Top Shoulder. 2 Top Shoulder. 6 Slightly Bin Soiled Labels. 2 Slightly Torn Labels.
6 Bottles per lot $100 - 150

1 Double Magnum per lot $125 - 175

85053 $175.00 $208.25
24 Chateau Petrus - Vintage - 1978
"Looks rather mature, with hints of garnet on the rim, but the aromas of tobacco, truffles and earth are decadent. Full-bodied, with rich, opulent flavors and a lovely ripe finish. Like an autumn day. Will improve." Wine Spectator, 2/91
1 Into Neck. 1 Base Neck. 2 Very Top Shoulder. 1 Top Shoulder. 1 High Shoulder. 6 Slightly Bin Soiled Labels. 6 Slightly Wrinkled Labels. 4 Slightly Torn And Tattered Labels. 1 Tape On Edge Of Label.

87930 $3,000.00 $3,570.00
25 Chateau Cos D’Estournel - Vintage - 1979
"The best of the 1979 St.-Estephes, Cos d'Estournel has a dark ruby color, with a developing bouquet of ripe cherries, cassis, and some vanillin, oaky scents. Full, yet corpulent for the vintage, with surprising weight and depth, this wine has aged slowly and still needs another 2-3 years of bottle age to be fully mature." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, Bordeaux, 3rd Edition, 1/98

27 Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou - Vintage - 1979
"…Medium ruby in color, and noticeably lighter in style than previous efforts, this moderately intense, soft, pleasant wine should evolve quickly." Robert Parker, Bordeaux, 3rd Edition, 1/98

Chateau Leoville-Las Cases - Vintage - 1979
"This is a lighter-styled Las Cases, with medium body, and an attractively pure, fragrant bouquet of leafy, curranty fruit, minerals, and spicy new oak. Well-etched on the palate, with everything in harmony, this wine displays no signs of fading." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 8/93

31 Chateau Margaux - Vintage - 1979
"This is a classic Margaux in the sense of its elegance and fragrance. A perfumed bouquet of blackcurrants, minerals, flowers, and smoky oak is persistent. This medium-bodied, rich, elegant wine is one of the less powerful examples of the Mentzelopoulos/Pontallier regime, but it is still concentrated and deep. Fully mature, it is delicious to drink and should continue to evolve gracefully for another 15-20 years." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 8/93

33 Chateau Comtesse De Lalande Pichon-Longueville - Vintage - 1979
"Fully mature, this dark ruby-colored wine displays a fragrant nose of cedar, currants, vanillin, and spices. The wine is medium-bodied, with gorgeous levels of rich fruit, adequate acidity, and a long, soft finish. Beautifully balanced, it should continue to drink well for another decade." 34 Chateau Leoville-Barton - Vintage - 2003
"One cannot admire enough proprietor Anthony Barton and his classic, potentially long-lived wines that are models of power, elegance, and longevity – in short, these wines symbolize what makes Bordeaux so world-renowned! Probably capable of rivaling the 2000, the uncompromisingly made, formidably powerful, masculine, and highly extracted 2003 has an inky purple color to the rim, a big, deep personality with a tight but promising nose of forest floor, creme de cassis, smoke, charcoal, licorice, and perhaps even truffle. It is layered, rich, and set for an exceptionally long life, but don’t expect to get a lot of joy even in this somewhat overtly styled vintage for at least another 7-8 years." Domaine De La Romanee-Conti - Vintage - 1971
La Tache
"This is what the La Tache cult is all about. Fantastic for its mineral, wet earth, bark and fruit character, it"s downright primal in its gamy aromas and flavors. Exotic, but not in a floral way--think hunting lodge with slain wild boars and you get the picture. Full-bodied, masculine and firm, yet also silky." Wine Spectator, 9/99

"The outstanding Clos St.-Denis possesses admirable sweetness, medium to full body, plenty of jammy black fruits, a sweet mid-palate, and the vintage's tannic clout noticeable in the wine's finish. However, the balance is present. Although not a massive red Burgundy, it is medium-bodied, elegant, concentrated, and best drunk between 2000-2015." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 8/95

Numanthia - Vintage - 2004
Toro Termanthia
"Believe it or not, the 2004 Termanthia is even better than the Numanthia. From an 11 acre plot, 2600 feet above sea level, planted with 100+-year-old ungrafted vines, the yields were well under 1 ton of fruit per acre. The wine was barrel fermented and received the “200% new oak” treatment over 20 months before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. Opaque purple-colored, the wine has an awesome nose which is already multi-faceted. There are elements of pain grille, lead pencil, mineral, violets, blueberry and blackberry with just a bit more subtlety and nuance than its two colleagues. On the palate the wine is an infant developmentally with densely packed ripe fruit, sensational balance, and a seamlessness that must be tasted to be believed. It should age like a great vintage of Lafite or Latour and have at least a 50 year life span. If you have a soul, sell it to the devil for a few bottles of this extraordinary liquid. There are only 1500 bottles for the American market." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 2/07

Proprietary Red Wine
"It is one of the great wines of the vintage in a year when a handful of California producers made profound Cabernets (i.e., Robert Mondavi Reserve, Dunn Howell Mountain, and Chateau Montelena). The wine is beginning to shut down, but it still displays a rich ruby color and an intensely spicy, fragrant nose of toasty vanillin oak, cassis, and cedar. In the mouth, this medium to full-bodied wine displays considerable tannins, fine integrated acidity, and an opulent, rich, spicy finish. I would suggest cellaring it for another 3-4 years; it should easily keep through the first decade of the next century." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 10/93

89 Chateau Branaire-Ducru - Vintage - 1982
"This is an elegant 1982, with blueberry, raspberry, mineral, and spicy oak aromas in the moderately intense, polite bouquet. The color is a healthy dark ruby with no lightening or amber. The wine exhibits firmness in the mouth as well as good flesh, a sweet, ripe entry, medium body, and impressive elegance and length. Not a blockbuster such as Gruaud-Larose, Leoville-Las-Cases, Leoville-Barton, and Leoville-Poyferre, this youthful, vibrant 1982 is a model of symmetry and finesse." 90 Chateau Lafleur - Vintage - 1982
"A spectacular nose of kirsch liqueur, minerals, flowers, and blackberries jumps from the glass of this thick, dark ruby-colored Lafleur. Over-ripeness, a characteristic of many 1982s (I say that in a positive, not pejorative sense), is apparent in this jammy, unctuously-textured, massive wine. Somewhat of a paradox to taste, it offers notes of maturity, richness, and succulence contrasted with massive structure, muscle, and density. Thrilling to drink, despite its youthful, tannic grip, the 1975 and 1979 Lafleurs come closest to this wine's massiveness and formidable intensity." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 6/00

91 Chateau Haut-Brion - Vintage - 1985
"The 1985 Haut-Brion, along with the flamboyant Mouton-Rothschild, is one of the two best first-growths of the vintage. The epitome of elegance and finesse, the 1985 is a deep ruby-colored wine, with a full intensity bouquet of jammy fruit, spices, and tobacco. It exhibits a soft, generous texture, super concentration, exquisite balance, and a long, impressive finish. While it does not have the power of the 1989 or 1986, it is a gorgeously elegant wine." 92 Chateau Lafite-Rothschild - Vintage - 1985
"The 1985 Lafite is revealing more class and complexity than I predicted. A moderately intense, cedary, woody, herb and berry-scented bouquet is attractive. The wine is open-knit and ripe, with fine tannins, sweet, medium-bodied, mineral, and cassis-scented flavors, fine depth, and a graceful, harmonious feel. It is beginning to blossom and appears to possess more depth and character than I had thought." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 8/93

98 Produttori Del Barbaresco - Vintage - 1989
Barbaresco
"The overall quality of Produttori's 1989 vintage is superb. However, the wines all taste differently and vary in intensity, texture, and extract levels. For a super bargain in rich, spicy, rose/cherry/tar-scented Barbaresco, readers are well-advised to check out the full-bodied, beautifully concentrated, supple, seductive 1989 Barbaresco. Already delicious, it promises to last for a decade." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 4/94

Beaulieu - Vintage - 1985
Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve Georges De Latour
"A dense, dark ruby/purple color exhibited more saturation than either the 1986 or 1987. The wine is closed yet with coaxing, its nose revealed aromas of black fruits, spices, and vanillin. In the mouth, the 1985 is rich, medium, to full-bodied, with excellent texture, and a long, powerful, stylish finish." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 4/92

It possesses that tell-tale Silver Oak, lavishly oaky, Provencal herb, sweet, smoky, jammy black-cherry and cassis-scented nose. Full-bodied, opulent, and succulent, this creamy-textured, luscious, low acid wine should continue to drink well for 10-12+ years. "The 1995 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley is performing far better after a year of bottle age. This dark ruby/purple-colored, seductive wine offers blazingly intense aromas of cigar box, smoky oak, and jammy black currants with a hint of Provencal herbs. Ripe and full-bodied, with low acidity, and a fleshy, succulent texture, it is a wine to drink over the next 14-15 years." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 12/98

The wine is fleshy, medium to full-bodied, seductive, and filled with glycerin. The finish is all silk. Exotic, with notes of tobacco, Provencal olives, jammy red and black fruits, and copious quantities of smoky, toasty oak, it possesses structure and tannin, but is a typically exotic, flamboyant, in-your-face Cabernet." Cabernet Sauvignon Napa
"The 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa looks to be one of the finest wines made by the winemaking team of proprietor Justin Meyer and winemaker/viticulturist Daniel Baron. The 1997 Napa is an impressive effort. A blend of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest 5% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, this wine has a flamboyant nose of fruitcake, licorice, Asian spice, black currants, and toasty wood. Deep, opulent, viscous, intense, chewy, and thick, it is a classic Napa Cabernet Sauvignon made in an all-American oak lovers' style. It should drink well for 12-15 years." Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select
"The 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select is one of the finest wines of the vintage. The 14.9% alcohol is barely noticeable given the amazing concentration and intensity. A saturated opaque purple color is followed by scents of vanilla, blackberry liqueur, crushed minerals, and a hint of white flowers. There is stunning intensity, tremendous purity, full body, and a remarkable, seamless finish (amazing given the elevated, austere tannin). Give the 1999 another 2-3 years of cellaring, and enjoy it over the following two decades or longer. A brilliant effort!" Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 12/03

"The 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select was performing even better this year than it was last year. While not as weighty and ageworthy as some of the more hallowed vintages, it is a seriously endowed wine. Deep ruby/purple to the rim, with a gorgeous nose of creme de cassis, licorice, graphite, spice, and cedar, it is more forward than most vintages, but full-bodied, concentrated, and beautifully seductive." Deep Time
"An experimental cuvee (only 100 cases will be sold via the mailing list) is the 2001 Deep Time. Enjoying a much longer upbringing in barrel (36 months), this wine seems to have more concentration than the regular cuvee but no more toasty oak. This is one of the advantages of long oak aging if you have the raw materials to begin with. Certainly, Jason Woodbridge working with his renowned consultant Philippe Melka, has done something special with this special cuvee. It is more structured and tannic, and not as accessible as the regular bottling." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 2/05

Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select
"Aged 32 months in 100% new French oak prior to bottling, it is one of the world’s greatest Cabernet Sauvignons. Like many of the top wines of the vintage, the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select has closed down, but it reveals impressive potential. Its dense purple color is accompanied by an exquisite bouquet of charcoal, sweet oak, black currant liqueur, and graphite. Full-bodied and powerful, with superb intensity, length, persistence, purity, and texture, it should either be decanted for several hours in advance, or given another 2-4 years of bottle age." Chateau Haut-Brion - Vintage - 1975
"Blame me for completely misjudging this wine early in its life. I have since purchased it at auction because of its price/quality ratio. Haut-Brion, which can begin life as a soft, light wine, never appeared to have much intensity when tasted beside the phenomenal La Mission-Haut-Brion and La Tour-Haut-Brion. However, over the last 5-7 years that has changed. Either the wine has put on considerable weight, or I was off-form the many times I tasted it when young. The wine has developed the hauntingly complex, tobacco, roasted herb, singed leather, smoky, sweet, fruity nose of a great Haut-Brion. Full-bodied and intense, with noticeable ripe tannin, this is a wine of considerable richness and intensity. It offers delicious drinking after 1-2 hours of decanting, even though noticeable tannin remains. This wine is capable of another 15-20 years of cellaring. Yes, I did indeed underestimate this wine. I tasted it a half-dozen times in 1995 and at each tasting it was a formidable wine. Do not be surprised to see this rating go even higher, as I do not believe the 1975 Haut-Brion has reached its pinnacle. Impressive!" Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 2/96

Chateau Haut-Bages-Liberal - Vintage - 1982
"Surprise, surprise! One of the least acclaimed 1982s, the Haut-Bages-Liberal has developed beautifully. It is crammed with thick, juicy, licorice/olive/smoky, roasted, ripe blackcurrant fruit. Full-bodied, thick, and juicy, without enough complexity to merit an outstanding rating, this mouthfilling, savory, super-concentrated, jammy Pauillac is already delicious, yet it reveals no signs of age. "The 1989 Meyney is one of the finest Meyneys ever produced. The opaque, black/ruby color, a bouquet of minerals and damson plums, the alcoholic, massive flavors and the mouthcoating tannins all combine to create a sensory overload. The 1989 will prove uncommonly long-lived as well as profoundly flavored." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 2/93

Chateau D' Yquem - Vintage - 1975
"The 1975 may turn out to be the greatest of the modern-day Yquems. When fully mature in another 25-30 years, it may rival the extraordinary 1937 and 1921. This wine continues to evolve at a stubbornly slow pace. It is far more backward than recent vintages such as 1983 and 1986. Nevertheless, it is awesomely concentrated, has perfect balance, and displays the telltale Yquem aromas of vanillin oak, tropical fruit, pineapples, honeyed peaches, and grilled almonds. There is exceptionally crisp acidity that pulls all of the massive extract into precise focus. This is a wine of astonishing power and finesse, with a finish that must be tasted to be believed. It is a monumental effort that may well justify a perfect score in another decade." Robert Parker, Bordeaux, 3rd Edition, 98

180 Chapoutier - Vintage - 1990
Hermitage La Sizeranne
"The color is a dark purple, and with coaxing, the super-ripe nose of cassis, licorice, minerals, and spices begins to emerge. This full-bodied, massively rich, tannic wine was aged in 60% new oak casks. It is gorgeously pure, with a finish that lasts for more than a minute. Last year I thought it was much more forward than the great Hermitages produced by Chave and Jaboulet. Now I am beginning to have doubts. I suspect this wine needs until the turn of the century to approach maturity. It should last for 25-30 years..." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 12/94

"...At its best the wine is a great Mouton. Huge, cedary, cassis, lead pencil, menthol-like aromas soared from the glass. The black/purple color revealed no signs of lightening or amber at the edge. Chateau Petrus - Vintage - 1970

Chateau Calon-Segur - Vintage - 1982
"The color is a medium dark ruby with a garnet center. The multidimensional nose offers up notes of dried herbs, sweet damp earth, espresso, black cherries, prunes, cedar, iodine, and iron. Extremely complex aromatically, this full-bodied, still tannic, concentrated, old style Bordeaux has two to three decades of life remaining. It is impressive, but clearly from the old-school of Bordeaux winemaking with rustic tannin, but huge depth and body." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 6/00

Chateau Pichon-Longueville Baron - Vintage - 1989
"The dense, full-bodied 1989 is brilliantly made with huge, smoky, chocolatey, cassis aromas intermingled with scents of toasty oak. Well-layered, with a sweet inner-core of fruit, this awesomely endowed, backward, tannic, prodigious 1989 needs another 5-6 years of cellaring; it should last for three decades or more. 200 Chateau Mouton-Rothschild - Vintage - 2003
"Backward, powerful, and extremely tannic, the dense purple-colored 2003 Mouton-Rothschild, a blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot, fashioned from yields of 28 hectoliters per hectare, with a finished alcohol of 12.9%, improves dramatically with aeration. With full-bodied, meaty, powerful, dry flavors as well as a huge finish, this high class wine should be at its finest between 2012-2040+. During its sojourn in barrel, it reminded me of a hypothetical blend of the 1982 and 1986 Moutons, but since bottling, it appears different, and even more tannic than those two vintages." Grange
"The 1998 Grange will be legendary. A blend of 97% Shiraz and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon, it tips the scales at a whopping 14.5% alcohol. The inky/purple color is followed by an extraordinarily intense nose of creme de cassis intermixed with blueberry and floral notes. As the wine sits in the glass, aromas of meat, plums, and cola also emerge. It is a seamless effort with sweet tannin, well-integrated acidity, sensational extract, and layer upon layer of blackberry and cassis fruit that stain the palate and fill the mouth. Its harmony, freshness, and remarkable length (the finish lasts nearly a minute) suggest an all-time classic." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 8/03

204 Araujo Estate - Vintage - 1993
Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele Vineyard
"As I reported last year, the 1993 Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele Vineyard is a spectacular wine from a vintage that has consistently received unfavorable press (particularly from the Wine Spectator). It seems to me that if the 1993 vintage were taken out of the context of the historical succession of outstanding years in the nineties, and put in the eighties, qualitatively, 1993 would tower over the likes of 1987, 1985, or 1984. The Eisele Vineyard 1993 Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the half dozen or so candidates for wine of the vintage. I have tasted it three times out of bottle, once rating it as high as 98, but never less than 96. It is a mind-boggling Cabernet Sauvignon that is remarkably well-balanced for its size and intensity. The color is an opaque purple, and the nose offers up smoky, chocolatey, blackcurrant, licorice, and mineral scents. On the palate, the wine reveals fabulous density, concentration, sweetness of fruit as well as tannin, and a 30-40 second finish. Although there is a high percentage of new oak, this wine has completely soaked it up, a testament to its extract and concentration of fruit. While the wine displays a certain precociousness, unusual for a 1993, there is plenty of tannin lurking in the finish, but it is well-concealed by the wine's exceptional richness. This beauty is destined to age effortlessly for 20-25 years." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 12/96

Cabernet Sauvignon
"The 1996 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate exhibits a black/purple color, and a thick, tobacco, weedy, cassis-scented character with outstanding richness and long, concentrated flavors. A powerful, massive wine, it should develop into a classic Oakville Cabernet made in the full-throttle, super-concentrated style. Readers can expect the 1996 to last for two decades or more." "A dark ruby-colored wine with noticeable amber/rust, the 1955 Haut-Brion offers a huge, fragrant bouquet of walnuts, tobacco, wet stones, and smoky, cassis-like fruit. Medium-bodied, with extraordinary elegance and sweetness, this rich, concentrated wine exhibits no hard edges. Remarkably youthful, as well as concentrated and impeccably well-balanced, it is capable of lasting for another 10-20 years." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 10/94

215 Chateau Latour - Vintage - 1975

Chateau Trotanoy - Vintage - 1975
"The exquisite 1975 Trotanoy gets my nod as one of the three finest wines produced at this estate in the last 25 years (the others being 1970 and 1982). This wine has been drinking splendidly for several years, exhibiting fabulous mocha/toffee/jammy black-cherry aromas in a complex, sweet, fragrant bouquet. Full-bodied, splendidly concentrated, velvety-textured, with a firm finish, this is a weighty, rich, complex, great vintage for Trotanoy. Drink it over the next 10-15 years. Like so many top Pomerols in the 1975 vintage, there is a sweetness and jamminess to this wine's fruit that is not found in most 1975 Medocs. This is a glorious Trotanoy!" "The wine exhibited an astonishing bouquet of hickory wood, smoke, walnuts, and gobs of sweet black truffle and raspberry-scented fruit. Full-bodied, with layers of sweet, expansive fruit, with no hard edges, this large-scaled wine still possesses phenomenal flavor concentration, as well as marvelous aromatic and flavor dimension. One of the great wines of the century, it is a winemaking tour de force! It revealed little tannin and appeared completely mature. I found it to be in superb condition at 65-years of age, so who among us would argue that it will not last another 20-25 years?" Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 10/94

"The 1975 Petrus reveals a youthful, rustic, brutally powerful style, with an opaque garnet/ruby/purple color, and an emerging nose of over-ripe black-cherries, mocha/chocolate, and truffles. Extremely full-bodied, ferociously tannic, but awesomely concentrated, the 1975 Petrus can be drunk, provided readers have a penchant for slightly uncivilized wines. This behemoth Petrus (the last made in this style) is at least a decade away from full maturity. It is potentially a 50 year wine, with exquisite concentration and intensity." Quarts De Chaume
"Baumard's 1997 Quarts de Chaume has been tasted five times over a six month period and it is a remarkably consistent wine. With extended aeration it appears to gain in focus and freshness, a trait that is surprising in the generally heavy and super-ripe 1997 vintage. Caramelized minerals and honeyed aromas are exuded by this dense, oily, jammy wine. On the palate, marzipan, candied grapefruit, and tropical fruits can de detected within its viscous, yet fresh, core. This massive offering will require some cellaring before reaching its peak." Riesling Brand
"Described by Olivier Humbrecht as “similar to the 1990 but with better balance”, the 2001 Riesling Brand (indice 1) is one of the greatest dry Rieslings I have ever tasted. Its intensely ripe nose reveals complex liquid stone and smoky pear aromas. Medium to full-bodied, hugely concentrated and magnificently deep, this intricate wine inundates the palate with bitter almonds, liquid minerals, pears, flowers, and spices. This dry offering’s finish is sumptuous, flavor-packed, seamless, and unbelievably long. Typically, Rieslings from Brand age remarkably well, gaining complexity and power with time, so I would not be surprised to see this wine earn a perfect score in a few years. Wow!" Yes, it is made in a sweeter style than the other ports, but it is a fabulous wine because of a dazzling level of black-cherry fruit, an enormous structure, and staggering depth, dimension, and length. It is forward, as are all 1985s, and I would speculate that this port will be approaching maturity by 1992-93 and will keep 15-20 years thereafter." Robert Parker, Buying Guide, 2nd Edition, 1/89

252 Chateau Pontet-Canet - Vintage - 2000
"The impressively saturated opaque purple color offers up some promising aromas of black currants, vanilla, truffle, smoke, and mineral. In the mouth, it is full-bodied, powerful, layered, and enticingly textured, but oh, so backward and firm. The finish is long, but this broodingly backward, large-scaled Pontet-Canet will require considerable patience." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 4/03

253 Chateau Leoville-Barton - Vintage - 2003
"One cannot admire enough proprietor Anthony Barton and his classic, potentially long-lived wines that are models of power, elegance, and longevity – in short, these wines symbolize what makes Bordeaux so world-renowned! Probably capable of rivaling the 2000, the uncompromisingly made, formidably powerful, masculine, and highly extracted 2003 has an inky purple color to the rim, a big, deep personality with a tight but promising nose of forest floor, creme de cassis, smoke, charcoal, licorice, and perhaps even truffle. It is layered, rich, and set for an exceptionally long life, but don’t expect to get a lot of joy even in this somewhat overtly styled vintage for at least another 7-8 years." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 4/06

254 Domaine De La Romanee-Conti - Vintage - 1995
La Tache
"This wine is mind-boggling and has gathered even more body, power, and density than it displayed from barrel. It is intensely profound, and super-ripe yet harmonious. Its extraordinarily long finish (it tails off with a sweet kirsch kiss) flabbergasted me. I could not help but think of the finishes of two wines I love - Chateau Rayas and Chateau Lafleur. It appears to be holding an enormous amount in reserve, and may ultimately merit higher ratings. It should be held at least ten years, and will easily last through 2020 given proper cellar conditions. Bravo!" Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 8/98

257 Numanthia - Vintage - 2004
Toro Numanthia
"Any aspiring collectors should add a case of this to their stash. The 2004 Numanthia comes from a different terroir with a different clone of Tinta de Toro. The vines for this cuvee range from 70-100 years of age with tiny yields of 1 ton of fruit per acre. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in barrel followed by 19 months in new French oak before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. The wine is a glass-coating opaque purple with a killer nose of mineral, pencil lead, wild blueberry, and blackberry liqueur that roars from the glass. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, dense, and already beginning to show complexity within its layers of spicy black fruits. There is immense power, well-concealed ripe tannin, and the well-delineated finish lasts for over one minute. This is a sensational effort which in a perfect world should be cellared for a decade and enjoyed over the following 25+ years. However, the elderly among us should not feel guilty about opening a bottle now." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 2/07

259 Colgin - Vintage - 2001
Cabernet Sauvignon Herb Lamb Vineyard
"Chocolatey, blackberry, blueberry, herbal tea, and floral notes are apparent in this densely saturated purple-colored 2001. Thick, juicy, succulent, black creme de cassis and licorice-infused flavors proliferate. Sweet tannin, a beautiful texture, and superb purity as well as delineation suggest this stunning Cabernet may be the best Herb Lamb since the 1997." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 12/03

Robert Mondavi - Vintage - 1996
Cabernet Sauvignon 30th Anniversary Reserve
"There is a majesty, richness, and breadth to 1996 Cabernet Sauvignon 30th Anniversary Reserve. This special bottling (about 1,000 cases) is a fabulous wine. From its opaque purple color and stunning aromatics of blackberries, cassis, pain grille, licorice, and Asian spices, to its full-bodied, concentrated, superbly-extracted style, this wine possesses virtually everything. Layers of fruit, glycerin, extract, and sweet tannin are presented in a flamboyant format. The tannin level is high, but so is the wine's richness and length. It is a sensational effort."
