Salon - Vintage - 1996 Le Mesnil A deep, vinous style, with understated power and grace. Chateau Lafite-Rothschild - Vintage - 1961 ...blends spicy, nutmeglike aromas with abundant fruit flavors and meaty undertones. It is plenty firm and tannic, but not overly so. Chateau Latour - Vintage - 1995 I have been blown away by this wine on recent occasions, and all of my hopes for it being a prodigious example of Latour after bottling have proven to be correct. The wine is a more unctuously-textured, sweeter, more accessible Latour than the 1996. Wow! What a fabulous, profound wine this has turned out to be. It is unquestionably one of the great wines of the vintage, and will probably need 10-12 years of cellaring before it can be approached. The wine reveals an opaque purple color, and a knock-out nose of chocolate, walnuts, minerals, spice, and blackberry and cassis fruit. Exceptionally full-bodied, with exhilarating levels of glycerin, richness, and personality, this wine, despite its low acidity, possesses extremely high levels of tannin to go along with its equally gargantuan proportions of fruit. It is a fabulous Latour that should age effortlessly for 40-50 years. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 2/98 Into Neck. Very Slightly Bin Soiled Label. 1 Magnum per lot $650 - 900

Chateau Monbousquet - Vintage - 1995 Although similar to the 1996, the 1995's fruit is more accessible, and while the tannin is elevated, it is buffered by lower acidity, as well as more glycerin and fat. The 1995 offers an opaque purple color, and a glorious nose of new oak, spice, and abundant black fruits. This full-bodied, super-extracted, multi-layered wine must be tasted to be believed - especially for readers who remember Monbousquet as the soft, innocuous, commercially-styled St.-Emilion it was for many decades. The 1995 has more accessibility than its blockbuster younger sibling, but it still requires 4-5 years of cellaring.Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 2/98 Into Neck. Very Slightly Bin Soiled And Very Slightly Wine Stained Label. 1 Double Magnum per lot $225 - 300

Chateau Cantemerle - Vintage - 2000 This is a nicely textured, plum/ruby-colored 2000 with a moderately intense bouquet of black fruits intermingled with licorice, vanilla, and plums. The wine is pure, elegant, medium-bodied, and stylish. While not a blockbuster, it is delicious, nicely structured, and accessible. Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou - Vintage - 2003 One of the most compelling Ducru Beaucaillou’s made in the last quarter century is the 2003 (which is also the first vintage to be packaged in an impressive heavy glass bottle with a special long cork). A blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot, it is a powerful, tannic, blockbuster effort revealing a liqueur of mineral-like component intermixed with creme de cassis, raspberry, and flower characteristics, and an atypically high 13.5% alcohol. Having firmed up considerably since bottling, it exhibits tremendous definition, weight, and concentration. It is a wine for patient connoisseurs. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 4/06 2 Into Neck. 2 Magnums per lot $475 - 650

Chateau Mouton-Rothschild - Vintage - 2003 Backward, powerful, and extremely tannic, the dense purple-colored 2003 Mouton-Rothschild, a blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot, fashioned from yields of 28 hectoliters per hectare, with a finished alcohol of 12.9%, improves dramatically with aeration. With full-bodied, meaty, powerful, dry flavors as well as a huge finish, this high class wine should be at its finest between 2012-2040+. During its sojourn in barrel, it reminded me of a hypothetical blend of the 1982 and 1986 Moutons, but since bottling, it appears different, and even more tannic than those two vintages. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 4/96 Into Neck. Very Slightly Bin Soiled Label. 1 Magnum per lot $700 - 900

Chateau Les Asteries - Vintage - 2005 Part of the garagiste efforts from Jonathan Malthus, Les Asteries is a blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. The dense ruby/purple-tinged 2005 reveals spicy, oaky aromas intermixed with scents of chocolate, blackberries, espresso roast, and graphite. This thick, juicy, modern-styled St.-Emilion offers impressive concentration, purity, and depth in its flamboyant personality. Very impressive! Chateau Calon-Segur - Vintage - 2005 A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, the totally closed 2005 Calon Segur is one of those traditionally made, backstrapping, uncompromising Bordeaux that will last 30-40 or more years. Its dense ruby color with purple nuances is followed by a nose that reluctantly offers up scents of damp earth, wood smoke, black cherries, cassis, and an exotic Asian spice character. The wine is formidably endowed and broodingly tannic, with noticeable acidity and a structured, nearly impenetrable mouthfeel. Nevertheless, it is easy to sense the weight, extract, and richness in this pure, deep wine. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 4/08 Original Wooden Case. 12 Into Neck. 12 Bottles per lot $800 - 1100

Chateau Haut-Brion - Vintage - 2005 Another profound effort from Haut-Brion, the 2005 (a 9,000-case blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc) has bulked up to the point that it is fair to compare it to the great successes of 1989, 1990, 1995, 1996, 1998, and 2000. A dark ruby/purple color is followed by a nuanced, noble bouquet of blue and red fruits interwoven with wet stones, unsmoked cigar tobacco, scorched earth, and spring flowers. The wine is full-bodied, pure, and complex as well as exceptionally elegant with laser-like precision. The tannins are still serious and substantial, and in that sense, this is a completely different style of Haut-Brion than the opulent, silky-textured 1989 and 1990. As I have written before, it comes across as an improved, more concentrated and structured version of the 1995 or 1998. Patience will be required for this stunner. Domaine A-F Gros - Vintage - 2002 Richebourg The 2002 Richebourg has a strong ruby color and reveals magnificent aromatic depth. Its candied red cherry, sassafras and cola scents lead to a medium-bodied core of cassis, blackberries, spices, and cherries galore. Silky-textured, deep, and holding much in reserve, this concentrated, elegant wine also displays an exceptionally long finish. Domaine Dujac - Vintage - 2005 Charmes-Chambertin The parade of Dujac grand crus begins with their 2005 Charmes-Chambertin, assembled from several parcels in both Mazoyeres and “Ur-“ Charmes. Especially coming after the striking contrast of the two Vosne crus, this smells and tastes like the proverbial bowl of cherries. Polished and incipiently creamy, it’s like a pillow after the firm mattresses offered by the two Vosnes for long resting in the cellar. Licorice, chalk dust, and slight hints of game lend complexity to this wine’s forward fruit and inform a finish of refined structure and imposing length that should drink well early. Domaine Des Clos Des Lambrays - Vintage - 2005 Clos Des Lambrays The 2005 Clos de Lambrays leads with hints of cedar and spruce resin (or is that actually ripe Pinot stems?), bitter-sweet florality, pungent spices, black tea, salt spray, iodine and Cote-Rotie-like smoked meats. Plum and cherry – with a strong dose of skins and pits -- almost come as an aromatic afterthought. A subtly bitter, tart edge follows the flowers, meat and minerals onto the palate and helps lend profile and pungent energy to the wine, which sticks tenaciously to the palate as if it were exactly the sort of resin suggested in its aroma. This is serious in a rather somber way, and the abundance of tannin and sheer density of this wine suggest one wait 6-8 years before peeking beneath another cork. But I strongly suggest it will make excellent old bones, so my score could easily mislead. (I find the peppery, spicy, highly satisfying 2004 very nearly as good today, not to mention more charming and a better bet for the short run.) The average age of vines is quite old, incidentally, but Brouin refuses to print “vieilles vignes” on the label because he insists (rightly) that these two unregulated words are grossly abused. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 4/07 3- .5cm. 2 Very Slightly Bin Soiled Labels. 3 Bottles per lot $375 - 500

Domaine Comte De Vogue - Vintage - 2005 Bonne Mares The 2005 Bonnes Mares marries black and red raspberries with fresh- sorbet- and liquer-like aspects alternating on a quite refined, polished, and (for this cru) seemingly less-savage than usual palate. Myriad herbs and spices mingle with the fruit and suggestions of wood smoke, horehound and sassafras emerge along with the sweet raspberries in a lingering finish that administers a considerable lashing of fine tannin and displays a sappy, resinous, faintly peppery cling. Domaine Comte De Vogue - Vintage - 2005 Chambolle-Musigny From young vines in Musigny plus non-cru parcels, the de Vogue 2005 Chambolle-Musigny does indeed exhibit the character of black raspberry sorbet, ripe yet somehow “cool” with lovely clarity and wafting florality, a hint of wood smoke, and a bright, invigorating cling of ripe black raspberry fruit. This nicely restrained yet well-concentrated wine will drink beautifully in the short run but deserves at least 3-5 years of rest to make good on its potential. Domaine Comte De Vogue - Vintage - 2005 Musigny Vieilles Vignes There can be little question that this deep, dark wine displays its class of origin, indeed a class of its own in this year’s collection. Fresh black raspberry, pomegranate, blackberry, and iris dominate the nose and stain the palate. A wealth of spice, mineral, chalky and bitter-sweet floral nuances persistently wreath the fruit at all stages. This shows lovely creaminess of texture in counterpoint to the persistent freshness of fruit. The intensely rich yet refreshing palate saturation and tenacious cling exhibited auger well for extended cellaring yet don’t detract from an impression of utmost elegance and refinement. Domaine Du Pegau - Vintage - 2004 Chateauneuf-Du-Pape Cuvee Reservee One of the finest efforts of the vintage is the 2004 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Reservee. There is no Cuvee da Capo in 2004, and as my commentary will make clear, they decided not to produce one in 2005. The 2004 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Reservee has a dark plum/garnet/purple color and a big, sweet nose of kirsch liqueur, lavender, roasted herbs, and beef juices intermixed with some licorice and spice. It is full-bodied, rich, deep, spicy, and dense with some tannins in the finish. The wine is not as accessible as many 2004s, and I would opt for cellaring it for 3-4 years and drinking it over the following 15-20. It’s a gorgeous effort for the vintage. Domaine Du Pegau - Vintage - 2005 Chateauneuf-Du-Pape Cuvee Reservee It reveals a dark ruby/purple hue along with notes of tar, roasted meats, and Provencal herbs, which give it a certain savage/animal character. Domaine Trimbach - Vintage - 2000 Pinot Gris Hommage A Jeanne Trimbach The 2000 Pinot Gris Hommage a Jeanne was produced from a selection of Trimbach's best Pinot Gris parcels (all harvested at over 15% natural potential alcohol). It sports 25 grams per liter of dry extract and 20 grams per liter of residual sugar. While at most firms this wine would merit a Vendanges Tardives bottling, the Trimbachs chose to pay homage to Jeanne Trimbach, the mother of Bernard and Hubert, who turned 100 in May 2000 and continues to drink Alsace's lovely nectars to this day. This gorgeous wine has mineral and smoke-imbued white peach aromas. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, dense, and rich. Layer after layer of apricot, poached pear, white peach, and spices can be found in its highly expressive, velvety-textured personality. It is an intensely concentrated, wonderfully balanced, fresh, and structured wine. Wine Advocate, 12/01 5- 1cm. 1- 1.5cm. 6 Bottles per lot $175 - 250

Luciano Sandrone - Vintage - 2001 Barolo Le Vigne Sandrone’s dark ruby-colored 2001 Barolo Le Vigne presents a fantastic nose of flowers, minerals and crushed raspberries followed by generous amounts of very ripe red fruits, mint and eucalyptus notes with well-integrated oak and fine tannins. It is noticeably more structured than the 2000, with more balance, freshness and a longer finish. Traditional in design, but modern in execution, the 2001 Barolo Le Vigne presents tremendous harmony and elegance. Ideally a few years of cellaring are warranted although the wine is already drinking well today. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 10/06 Original Wooden Case. 6- 1cm. 6 Bottles per lot $350 - 475

Valdicava - Vintage - 2001 Brunello Di Montalcino Riserva Madonna Del Piano Vincenzo Abbruzzese has turned out a magnificent wine in his 2001 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Madonna del Piano. Oddly, the wine has a much more subdued color than last year’s opaque Brunello. Richly sumptuous and elegant, it reveals a compelling array of sweet dark cherries, minerals, tar, underbrush, smoke and licorice with superb concentration. It is remarkably vivid and detailed for such a big wine. Ideally a few years of cellaring are warranted but those lucky enough to own this wine will have a hard time exercising such patience. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 10/07 3 Into Neck.

Valdicava - Vintage - 2001 Brunello Di Montalcino Valdicava’s fully-saturated, almost black 2001 Brunello di Montalcino is a massively endowed effort packed with opulent layers of jammy dark fruit, licorice, cassis and earth. It offers great length in a richly sumptuous, concentrated style. I must admit this wine’s virtually black color is hard to understand but it is difficult for me to fault the absolute quality of what is in the glass even if the style is quite atypical. Hard to resist today, it also clearly has the stuffing to drink well to age 20. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 12/06 5 Base Neck. 5 Bottles per lot $550 - 700

Montevertine - Vintage - 2003 Le Pergole Torte The 2003 Le Pergole Torte is an atypically rich, powerful version of this wine but the higher altitude of the vines, which extend to 550 meters, have helped preserve some freshness. It offers a compelling array of black cherry, licorice, mineral notes in a style that expresses the ripeness of the vintage yet is balanced by a classic sense of structure. Still very intense today, it will require a few years in bottle to settle down and may ultimately merit a higher score. Penfolds - Vintage - 2001 Grange It is always a treat to taste Australia’s most famous wine, Penfolds’ Grange cuvee (the word Hermitage has been dropped because of legal issues). The 2001 Grange is one of the few vintages of this cuvee to be composed of 100% Shiraz (the others being 1951, 1952, 1963, 1999, and 2000). Aged 17 months in 100% American oak, and tipping the scales at 14.5% alcohol, the 2001 is undeniably one of the top examples of this wine. At this stage, it appears to eclipse the 1998 and 1996. Inky/blue/purple to the rim, with a stunning perfume of blueberries, blackberries, chocolate, graphite, and earth, it boasts good acidity, huge tannins, magnificent concentration, and a multilayered, textured mouthfeel. It is a big, but impeccably well-balanced Shiraz that should shed some of its structure and tannin over the next 4-5 years, and be at its best between 2010-2030+. Clarendon Hills - Vintage - 2003 Shiraz Astralis It’s hard to believe the 2003 Syrah Astralis Vineyard could be better, but it offers riveting richness, intensity, purity, and equilibrium. Structurally, it is similar to the Piggott Range, revealing abundant amounts of sweet, ripe tannin, and huge extract, richness, and depth. Meant for true connoisseurs who are willing to forget it for 5-8 years, it represents what Roman Bratasiuk and Clarendon Hills do so well ... show respect for the great traditions of France, but recognize the extraordinary raw materials that emerge from old vines planted in McLaren Vale. This fabulous wine offers both power and elegance, and showcases the extraordinary talent of Roman Bratasiuk. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 10/05 3- .5cm. 3 Bottles per lot $550 - 700

Torbreck - Vintage - 2004 Shiraz Run Rig The flagship 2004 Run Rig is 96.5% Shiraz and 3.5% Viognier with the Shiraz component aged for 30 months in a mixture of new and used French oak. Yields were a minuscule 14 hl/ha (about 1 ton per acre). Saturated opaque purple/black, it has a remarkably kinky, exotic perfume of fresh asphalt, pencil lead, smoke, pepper, game, blueberry and black raspberry. Full-bodied and voluptuous in the mouth, the wine is dense and packed, with amazing purity, sweet tannins, and a complex collection of sensory stimuli. The wine demands 10 years of cellaring and will provide hedonistic delights through 2035+. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 10/07 Original Wooden Case. 6- 1.5cm. 6 Bottles per lot $600 - 850

Hundred Acre Vineyard - Vintage - 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Kayli Morgan Vineyard The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Kayli Morgan looks to be the finest Cabernet Sauvignon Jayson Woodbridge has yet produced, and has put on weight and complexity since I tasted it last year. Like all of his Cabernet Sauvignons, this wine is fermented in wood puncheons or demi-muids, and is a breathtaking example of plush, layered, complex Cabernet Sauvignon. A total thrill, this wine has absolutely awesome aromatics of creme de cassis, cedar, sweet cherries, spice box, as well as licorice and graphite. A caramelized sweetness to the fruit, loads of glycerin, unbelievable unctuosity and opulence a la Pomerol’s Le Pin or some of the legendary vintages of right bank Bordeaux leads into a full-bodied, concentrated, exceptionally pure wine that is a total delight to smell, contemplate, sip, and in my case, spit out. This is a wine that can be drunk young or cellared for 20+ years. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 12/07 Original Wooden Case. 3 Base Neck. 3 Bottles per lot $500 - 700

Scarecrow - Vintage - 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon The 2005 Scarecrow (still in barrel) is a bold wine but, again, the quintessential elegance that seems to be a characteristic of this site is well-displayed. The wine has notes of crushed rock, creme de cassis, cedar wood as well as some licorice and tobacco leaf. This is a beautiful wine of superb purity, depth, and broad, concentrated flavors that are full-bodied but in seamless harmony. This Scarecrow should evolve for 25-30 years. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 12/07 Original Wooden Case. 3 Into Neck. 3 Bottles per lot $375 - 500

Quilceda Creek - Vintage - 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Opaque purple-colored, it has a splendid perfume of violets, wood smoke, truffle, Asian spices, black cherry, and black currant preserves. Opulent and mouth-coating, the layers of complex flavors nearly hide enough tannin to support 8-10 years of additional cellaring. The oak, tannin, and acidity are beautifully integrated and the lengthy finish lasts for well over a minute. Purchasers no doubt will want to try a bottle immediately but this towering effort will not reach its peak until 2015 at the earliest and provide pleasure through 2040. I say this with confidence because a 1983 Quilceda Creek Cabernet tasted in May 2008 is at its peak now and should carry on for another 10-15 years. Chateau Gilette - Vintage - 1959 Crème De Tete 'This is a decadent, honey-pot of a wine. It is medium deep golden, with a huge bouquet of smoked nuts, coffee, mocha, coconut, and decadently jammy apricot and peach-like fruit. In the mouth, the wine has astonishing richness, super glycerin content, a great deal of body, and a long, alcoholic, smashingly intense, heady finish. Seemingly fully mature, yet still remarkably fresh and young, this wine can easily last for another 20 or more years. Chateau Cheval Blanc - Vintage - 2000 This closed, backward blend of 53% Merlot and 47% Cabernet Franc boasts a saturated purple color along with a reticent but striking bouquet of blackberries, blueberries, truffles, and mocha. In spite of its tightness, aeration reveals scents of licorice, menthol, and saddle leather. Opulent and full-bodied, with low acidity, sweet tannin, and a 60-second finish, it is unquestionably as profound as the 1990 and 1982. I still believe the 2000 has the potential to be the most compelling Cheval Blanc since the mythical 1947 and 1949, but patience is required. It should merit a three digit score in 7-10 years, but it is closed at present. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 4/03 2 Original Wooden Cases. 12 Into Neck.

Chateau Monbousquet - Vintage - 2000 From an unheralded terroir, this Monbousquet was made from extremely low yields of 28-30 hectoliters per hectare. Aged sur lie and bottled unfined and unfiltered, it exemplifies proprietor Perse's enormous efforts. Black and blue to the rim, this wine represents the essence of this terroir. Its saturated black/purple color is accompanied by extraordinary aromatics of sweet blackberries, chocolate, coffee, incense, new saddle leather, and vanilla. Remarkable intensity, lively acidity, and abundant tannin provide definition and grip. This is the most intense, muscular, and biggest Monbousquet made to date, and that is saying something considering the 1998 and 1999! So be prepared, it is remarkable wine. Heitz - Vintage - 1974 Cabernet Sauvignon Martha's Vineyard I had this wine twice over a period of thirty days, rating it an astounding 99 and 98 points. A monumental California Cabernet Sauvignon, it appears to have approached its plateau of maturity but should easily last for 20-25 more years. There is no rust, amber, or brown to the saturated dark purple color. The spectacular, huge, Mouton-Rothschild-like nose of mint, cassis, lead pencil, and toast is remarkably youthful. Staggeringly concentrated, this full-bodied, super-rich wine possesses moderate tannin, fresh, lively acidity, and a blockbuster, rich, fleshy finish. This is a monumental effort! Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 8/94 Very Top Shoulder. Slightly Bin Soiled Label. 1 Bottle per lot $750 - 1000

Amon-Ra - Vintage - 2005 Shiraz The profound 2005 Shiraz Amon Ra is fashioned from a dry grown, 100- to 110 year-old vineyard, and spends 14 months in a combination of 100% new French and American barrels as well as 300-liter hogsheads. A saturated purple color is followed by scents of creme de cassis, incense, licorice, black raspberries, graphite, and sweet wood. It unfolds beautifully on the palate to reveal terrific richness, full-bodied power, great definition, and lovely elegance. This exquisite Shiraz is still young, but it possesses a degree of accessibility. It should age for two decades. It is a superb example of cutting edge winemaking being utilized on ancient Shiraz vines in the Barossa. Rudd - Vintage - 2000 Jericho Canyon Vineyard Proprietary Red Wine The 2000 Jericho Canyon Vineyard Proprietary Red (a 2,500-case blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot) is atypically full-bodied and powerful for the vintage. While it may not possess the complexity of the 1999, it offers copious quantities of black fruits, licorice, and coffee. The wine is dense and supple, with sweet tannin and a long finish. It should drink well for 12-15 years. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 8/02 Original Wooden Case. 6 Into Neck. 6 Bottles per lot $475 - 600

Rich, with great intensity, tremendous purity, an opulent, full-bodied mouthfeel, and good underlying tannin as well as freshness, it should drink well for 12-15 years. Arietta - Vintage - 2002 Proprietary Blend H Block Hudson Vineyard One of the most extraordinary wines I tasted during my trip through Northern California was Arietta’s 2002 Proprietary Red H Block Hudson Vineyard. Made from equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Franc, this dark purple-colored 2002 exhibits wonderfully refined, complex notes of scorched earth, menthol, mocha, cherries, plums, figs, and espresso. With great intensity as well as surreal elegance and refinement, this beautifully pure effort unfolds on the palate in incremental layers of finesse and flavors. This amazing, noble wine is a tour de force in winemaking for California. It should drink well for 15 years. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 2/05 6 Into Neck. 6 Bottles per lot $750 - 1000

Lokoya - Vintage - 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Mount Veeder The magnificent 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Mount Veeder boasts an extraordinary perfume of lead pencil shavings intermixed with charcoal, blueberries, blackberries, and cassis. This provocative Cabernet possesses the highest tannin level, but also the most concentration, texture, and depth. As it sits in the glass, scents of flowers, espresso roast, and black fruits emerge. A tour de force in Cabernet Sauvignon, it requires 4-5 years of aging, and should last for two decades. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 2/05 3 Into Neck. 3 Bottles per lot $375 - 500

Lush and round, this medium to full-bodied, nicely-textured, layered Pichon-Lalande possesses low acidity, outstanding ripeness, and beautiful purity and balance.
