One of the most drinkable, complex, and tasty 1982s of the northern Medoc, this wine is beginning to reach its plateau of full maturity. Still a dense ruby/purple color with some lightening at the edge, it offers up classic aromas of cedar wood, fruitcake, tobacco leaf, and creme de cassis. This full-bodied, opulent, fleshy, sexy Pauillac can be drunk now with great pleasure and complexity, or cellared for another 10-15 years.

This is another Lynch Bages that has never gone through an awkward, disjointed stage where it completely shut down. The color remains a dense ruby with some lightening at the edge. Thick, juicy, succulent notes of creme de cassis intermixed with dried herbs, vanillin, minerals, and anise leap from the glass. Fleshy and full-bodied, with the vintage's voluptuous texture and low acid, fruit/glycerin-dominated flavors well-displayed in its full-bodied personality, this wine tastes young, but isalso ready to drink. Anticipated maturity: now-2015.

The 1982 Lynch Bages continue to develop well. Delicious since age 5-6, it remains a husky, forceful, grapy, exuberant wine with gobs of cassis fruit presented in an unctuously-textured, thick, succulent style. The wine has not developed much complexity aromatically, but it is a weighty, textbook example of a wine from this popular estate. Full-bodied, soft, and supple, it will continue to drink well for 15-20 more years. Tasted 14 times since bottling with consistent notes.

Like many top vintages of Lynch-Bages, 1982 has been drinkable since its release in 1985. The color exhibits little evolution, remaining a saturated dark ruby/purple. The nose is full of ripe blackcurrant aromas, intertwined with scents of leather and spicy oak. This unctuously textured, rich, full-bodied, concentrated Lynch-Bages is intense and dramatic. Although low in acidity, it retains considerable tannic clout. If you like to drink claret young with an edge on it, you will enjoy it as much as I did. Another 4-5 years of cellaring might prove beneficial; it will easily keep through the first decade of the next century. Along with the 1961, 1970, 1986, 1989, and 1990, it is one of this estate's finest wines in the last thirty years. Last tasted, 6/93.

Extremely youthful ruby color, with a hint of garnet. Berry, currant and mint character, with an earth note. Full-bodied, extremely concentrated yet sweet and fruity, with fine tannins and a long, long finish. Inspirational; never considered classic by many people but it's very great indeed.--1982 Bordeaux horizontal. Best after 2004. (JS)
