The long, smoldering finish shows a nice wild side. Impressive now, but better with some cellaring. Grenache and Syrah. Drink now through 2014. 3,000 cases made. |

| WA 94 (4/07): Perhaps the best cuvee he has ever made of Ermitage Chante Alouette is the 2004, a fabulous vintage for the whites of the northern Rhone. This wine competes attractively with the single vineyard whites. The wine has wonderful notes of honeysuckle, licorice, quince, and white currants in an almost thick, juicy style yet buttressed by considerable acidity. It is a gorgeous wine with terrific intensity and richness.
WS 92 (11/06):vLovely mouthfeel, with creamy peach, almond cream, macadamia nut and acacia blossom notes that glide effortlessly through the finish. Nice minerally encore. Drink now through 2012. 3,200 cases made. –JM |

| WS #40 2010 Top 100. Subtle currant, cedar and floral aromas follow through to a dense, full--bodied palate of ripe fruits and silky tannins, with a long finish. A little age will soften this just slightly. Really serious. Best after 2010. 3,000 cases made. –JS |

| Sampled 5/21/11. Opened in short order. A very nice Dalla Valle in what many found to be a tough year in Napa. Typical Dalla Valle layering of red and black fruits. Smooth, if not quite silky. A nice 20+ second finish. |

| Sampled 5/13/11. Wow. A powerhouse of a wine. Took over an hour in the decanter. At first, the spice and black pepper was a kick in the face but one you kept going back to. After an hour in the decanter dark and dense fruits emerged and overpowered the spices and the wine started settling into a more silky feel but still huge. 70% Temp / 20% Grenache / 10% Mazuelo, with the latter two grapes making the wine so dense. The wine just kept evolving in the glass all night and it kept getting better. Will come back to this one in a few years and probably over the next dozen +. |

| Sampled 5/10/11. A wonderful Brunello that took about 60 minutes in the decanter to get going. Nice dark color with a nose of dense fruit and perfumed flowers underneath. The finish seemed a bit short, but I suspect it was becase the wine is simply too young still. Plenty of dark and red fruits with a wonderful terrior. Just enough Oak and dried herbs. It will improve. |

| Sampled 5/6/11. With dinner at Encantada in Barcelona. The wine was very good and it dramatically outperformed this Michelin starred restaurant. Worst Michelin starred restaurant I`ve ever been to and it is one of the very few fine dining restaurants where BOTH me and my wife had to say - "take this [sh-t] away" to at least one dish on the tasting menu. Other restaurants in Barcelona were dramatically superior, even the casual but sophisticaed Bar Mut and Pla. Back to the wine. Took about 45 minutes in the decanter to fully open. Elegant, red fruits and currant with some spice and Oak and leather notes. A very good wine that is aging beautifully. |

| After 10 years, this is a wine in near perfect balance. Not a superb wine, but nicely put together. Soft tannins that provide structure throughout the wine. Nicely blended classic cabernet flavors. A hint of age on the nose and in the glass. Could have been better, maybe a little richer, if drank a few years ago, but still showing nicely. |

| Sampled 4/29/11. A ruby colored wine that shows a little age at the edges but not much. Plenty of sediment, but not so much as the Dow`s `77. This wine taste`s younger than the Dow`s and probably has another 10 years in it. Wonderful red and black fruits, beautifully layered. Little hints of spice and even some vanilla Oak. A long finish of at least 45 seconds. Masterful. |

| Sampled 5/2/11. Dark garnet color. On the palate the wine has some still gritty tannins that are covered with velvet. Makes no sense? You`ll have to try the wine. Dense blackberries and black currant. Pencil lead. some spice. Cedar/oak elements. A huge wine that still has another 10 years to go. We should have decanted it first, as it started off greate and got slowly a little better over a couple hours. Next bottle will be at least a 2 to 4 hour decant. |

| Sampled 4/27/11. Slightly more Burgundian than Cali Oak and Butter. Not bad wine some lemons, orange peel, a little straw and butter and Oak. A few off elements that hurt the score. Decent acidity. It won`t improve. |
