| after opening 2 oxidized half bottles of 2004 Girardin Chassagne Abbaye de Morgeot, I was hoping
BRthe half of Sauzet would be better, and I was NOT disappointed! Divine aromas of key lime, quince,
BRwhite peach, limestone and fresh flowers are explosive, while the flavors are still remarkably tight
BRacross the palate, with layers of ripe pulpy white fruits that develop breadth as they cross the
BRpalate. The finish adds in the minerality and Sauzet`s typical intense acidity. This is divine - sadly it
BRis my only bottle. If you`ve got it in full bottles, I`d say it will hold well for at least another 5 years,
BRand probably more than a decade. Very impressive! |

Sampled 3/14/10. This wine has some nice dark color and a typical modestly priced Cali Cab nose - loads of fruit with some other oft-putting odors. On the palate the overripe black fruit core comes through, but so does a little too much acidity, some herbaceous elements and a disjointed mid palate and finish. I`ve tried this wine a few times over the past 14 months and just don`t see it ever coming together and improving enough to warrant even its modest cost.

Sampled 3/13/10. Wow! The cork was soaked completely through but the wine was in excellent shape. Some bricking at the edges, but that was the only sign of age. Pop and pour, but the wine held up through the entire 1.5 hour dinner. Wonderful strawberry and raspberry fruits, sweet but not jammy. Perfectly smooth with just a little cedar/vanilla Oak. A hint of spice. What a glorious wine that gets an extra point for its ageworthiness in such a tough vintage. I think this is the best overall Bordeaux from the `83 vintage. For if you`ve to a well stored bottle, don`t be afraid to save it for the wine`s 30th and perhaps even its 35th anniversary.

Sampled 3/12/10. Decanted for 4 hours. The nose was loaded with sour and black cherries upon pulling the cork, but the wine tasted closed. After 4 hours in the decanter, the wine had barely budged in any respect. Either the wine is in a dumb phase or it simply isn`t that great. Clearly there is a difference of opinon on this wine as WS gave it a 97 and RP gave it a 91. Normally, I go with WS on Barolo`s but in this case I`m with Parker. I don`t think the wine is closed, it is just not that great. There is some beautiful and elegant sour and black cherry with dried herbs, but they are overpowered by too much acidity which makes the wine seem closed or shut down. I hope I`m wrong, as I`ve got a half case of this left, but I`ll come back to it in a couple years to see. There is no rush on this wine as it will either improve over the next 10 years or likely remain at this quality level for such period.

Sampled 3/12/10. Decanted for 4 hours. Lush, rounded overripe blue, red and black fruits very nicely layered. Other then fruit, there were hints of licorice, tar and vanilla Oak. The wine is probably at peak and did not require 4 hours of decanting - probably only 30 to 60 minutes and it did not change at all after the first hour through the next 5 hours. The wine will likely last at this wonderful level for another 4 or 5 years and is likely to be a solid wine for up to another 7 years. On the other hand, I don`t see it improving at this point so enjoy it for the next several years.

A dark plum in the glass with aromas of dark currant and herbs. Chewy on the palate with big tannins that do not overpower. Mineral notes accent the backbone of currant, sage, and dark fruit. Finish is clean and has nice length. It just seems to be missing something that would make it great at $30.

Sampled 3/6/10. The cork was in excellent shape. The opened up within 15 minutes and did not show any real signs of age in its rich red/purple color. The wine has a noticeable acidity level to it, but the overripe blueberry and red fruits still come through. The wine did not fade one bit over the 90 minutes we consumed it. It is not particularly complex, but it gets 1+ extra points for its ageworthiness. Although the wine will not improve at this point, it is likely to hold its form another 7+ years. Therefore, if you`re saving a bottle for a 50th or 55th (or perhaps 60th) birthday or anniversary, you are likely to have a wine you can open and enjoy.

Sampled 3/5/10 in 375ml. This wine is a fruit bomb, but its more than just that. Some nice herbs, cedar, licorice and tar to go with the abundand blackberries, plum and black cherries. In a larger format and with some aging this wine will get better - perhaps even 93 points. Definitely a wine to come back to.

Sampled 3/2/10. Instead of being layered, the different flavors pop up like popcorn with no smoothness to the transition. Still it is a very good wine that earns an extra point for its complexity and loses a point for its uneven presentation. Cassis, red fruits, Oak, blackberries, licorice and tar.

Sampled 2/21/10. A very interesting blend, Sangiovese and Merlot. The Merlot really comes through with chocolate covered blueberries that are quite dominant up front. On the finish, some red fruits start peaking through. An interesting wine that is well made and definitely worth trying.

Sampled 2/20/10. Just a beautiful bottle of wine. Full bodied. Overripe blackberries, black cherries, cassis, black currant - all layered. Some dried herbs and vanilla Oak. Just a mouthful of gorgeous old school California. It only took 15 minutes in the glass to open up fully and never faded. Only a small amount of sediment. This wine still has some great years ahead of it too.

A beautiful wine, but after 2 hours it started to fade a little. Clear at the end of its peak run, but almost no sediment in the bottle. Drink now. |

Sampled 2/14/10. Wonderful melons, citrus and honeysuckle up front. The wine tapered of to more citrus, minerals and straw towards the finish, but you did not feel like the wine was dropping off, just showing it different layers in that order. The wine stayed strong in bead throughout the dinner.

Deserving of an extra point for its longevity, and this wine is not done yet (although it won`t get better). |

Sampled 2/12/10. This was such a different wine than the `91. Much more overripe fruit up front and throughout - blackberries and black cherries. Sweet Oak. More body than the `91 and no vegitables. The wine also held up until the next night after pump. Impressed by this effort, and there was almost no sediment.

Sampled 2/12/10. A wine that is aging well. More brussel sprouts and green peppers than I am used to from the `91 vintage, but interesting and still a good wine with cassis underlying it all. Some Oak. The finish does last and there is no weakness at mid palate. A very good and interesting wine.

Sampled 2/12/10. Notice this review is for the "Marconnets" Premier Cru label. A 89+ point Burg that gets an extra point or so for its wonderful longevity. Typical ripe sour cherries with minerals and a fresh acidity. Medium bodied but a long finish. A nice example of what an aged Burg can accomplish. This wine will not improve, but it should be good for another 3 to 5 years.

Sampled 2/10/10 in MAGNUM. This wine from Magnum is in peak form. What a beautiful layering of black, red and blue fruits, each overripe but not jammy. Just Yummy! This wine is even better than Parker thought it was. In 750, its probably on its way down, but the Mags should last another 2 to 4 years in great form.

Sampled 2/6/10 in MAGNUM. What a great treat. The wine was still young with only hints of an Amarone characteristic coming through at the finish. Tons of ripe black fruits put forth in a soft and elegant manner with a 45 second finish. A wine you can drink all night. Unfortunately, the larger formats of this wine are very rare and this might end up being my last experience with this incredible wine. If you have Mags or larger, you`ve still at least a half dozen years left, but 750s should be consumed sooner than later.
