1997 Marcassin Marcassin Vineyard Pinot Noir Condition: The 1997 Pinot Noir Marcassin Vineyard is a closed, backward offering. Its dark ruby/purple color is followed by aromas of compost, earth, plums, figs, black cherries, and raspberries. It behaves like a grand cru from Morey-St.-Denis, possessing bracing acidity, a dense, concentrated finish, and superb purity. It is completely shut down, and requires another 1-2 years of bottle age. While it will last for 10-12 years, I wonder if it will ever achieve the completeness and complexity of the 1998 or subsequent vintages? - RP WA95 |
