Ornellaia is superb this year. One of the best in years, with currant and blackberry and hints of mint. Full-bodied, with excellent tannin structure and a lovely, sweet berry aftertaste. Best after 2000. 13,750 cases made. ... IWC 88 (10/2004): Deep, bright red. Pretty, floral aromas of dark berries, cocoa powder, cedar and truffle. Juicy and suave on entry, then moderately rich in the middle, with sound acidity and a slightly earthy, roasted character. The roasted character shades toward raisin on the finish. The fruit here was harvested after a rainy spell in '96. (Interestingly, the 1996 Masseto shows finer tannins than the '95, and today is clearly the better wine.
