Kevin and Jill Higgs have grown Riesling in Marlborough for more than 25 years. Their Lebecca Vineyard lies in the heart of the Rapaura sub-district on deep, gravelly silt loams. The stoniness of these soils protects perfume and vibrancy, while their density allows volume and concentration. The Growers Collection "Lebecca Vineyard" Riesling, each year, celebrates the skill and commitment of New Zealand's best grapegrowers, like Kevin and Jill, in recognition of the origin and source of all meaningful wine: special vineyards, and the people who tend them.
The 2005 "Lebecca Vineyard" Riesling is fresh and ripe, featuring lifted and floral aromas of honeysuckle, alyssum, cherry blossom and wet stone. Compact and juicy flavors of ripe pear, red delicious apple, comice pear, white peach and talc. This wine displays and apt balance of acid and sugar, so that the sweetness seems to disappear
on the long, minerally finish. One of our favorites!
