Nestled along the hillsides of Rasteau, an historic
wine village located in the southern Rhone along the Route D’Orange, Domaine
Bressy-Masson has been highly regarded for its exceptionally rich, concentrated
and flavorful wines and has been described as “one of the up-and-coming stars of
the southern Rhone” by Robert Parker (February 2009).
The Domaine, which had its origins in the
19th century and was
founded by Marius Bressy, is now managed by Marie-France Masson and her husband
Thierry, who follow a traditional winemaking approach that is respectful of the
historic terroir. The Domaine currently consists of 30 hectares of superb
vineyards which encompass a broad range of soils and terrain and which feature
100+ year-old vines. The Domaine’s red wines are made primarily from old-vine
Grenache, with Syrah and Mourvedre added to balance out the flavors, and are all
aged in old, neutral oak.
Cuvée Paul Emile, made exclusively from 80+ year old
vines and only produced in exceptional vintages. The 2007 Cuvée Paul Emile,
composed of Grenache (60)%, Syrah (20%) and Mourvedre (20%),
Robert
Parker: “The [2007] vintage's velvety tannins are well-displayed in this
superconcentrated, inky/ blue/black-colored effort. Dense, full-bodied,
mouthfilling, and substantial, this is a brawny, blockbuster southern… should
age effortlessly for a decade or more.”
