The Napanook vineyards, which bring us both Dominus and Napanook wines, have quite a history. They were the first vineyards planted in the Napa Valley in 1836 by George Yount. Dominus was established in 1982. Christian Moueix created Napanook in 1993 to produce wines that can be enjoyed relatively early and are food friendly. This wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (83%), Cabernet Franc (9%), Petit Verdot (4%), Merlot (3%) and Malbec (1%) that has been French oak aged for 14 months. ""The estate’s second wine is the 3,600-case cuvee of 2004 Napanook, a blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. A strong effort, it offers a beautiful seductive nose of dried herbs, damp earth, sweet cherries, cedar, and spice box. Opulent, round, sexy, and delicious, it should be consumed during its first decade of life."" Wine Advocate rated 91 |
