Perata vineyards supplied carefully tended grapes to area winemakers for roughly three generations. The transition to winemaking was made easier by being able to have Gary Galleron as winemaker. Gary grew up working in vineyards as has been a family tradition since 1918. He began his winemaking training at Chateau Montelena under Mike Grgich and remains passionately committed to producing hand crafted wines. This wine is dedicated to Frank Perata who, although “retired”, continues to monitor this vineyard daily. “With our 2005 “Franks” Cabernet Sauvignon we took advantage of the ample harvest and choose grapes from several of our rootstock and Cabernet Sauvignon clonal combinations. They were harvested at the same time and together the field blend was fermented. The wine has been aging for 16 months in French oak. We are impressed with the medium body, ample tannins and ripe fruit character.” Winery notes |
