Gainey Vineyards started as a Father-Son farming venture in 1962 when Dan H. and Dan G. Gainey bought 1,800 acres in the Santa Ynez Valley in Santa Barbara County. Vineyards were not planted until 1983 and the winery was completed in 1984. In the 1990’s, the Gainey’s expanded their vineyard holdings to include 120 acres in what is now Santa Rita Hills AVA. The original vineyards are conducive to growing Bordeaux varietals while the newer vineyards are more suited to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah. This Riesling is grown in the Santa Ynez vineyards and is barrel fermented. |
