Clos de Vaulichères’ winemaker, Olivier Refait, has won five gold medals in a row at ‘Concours Agricole de Paris’ and is the only Burgundy winegrower to twice win the ‘Prix d’Excellence’. His wines are also listed in the prestigious Hachette’s wine guide. At one time, Chateau Clos de Vaulichères was known as the best estate in Tonnerrois. Phylloxera devastated the vineyard in the 19th century and when Olivier took over the estate in 1991, he had to begin again almost from scratch. He has now created estate wines that meet the standards of the great vintages of the past. This wine has the liveliness and the richness of a great Chardonnay. Less oaked than a traditional California Chardonnay, this wine is subtle and fruity. It is best served with poultry, salads, seafood or mild sausage. |
