winemaker's notes:
Made from 100% Garganega
grown in the Capitel Croce vineyard and harvested at less than 2 tons
per acre. The wine is barrel fermented and remains in Allier and
Troncais barriques for 12 months prior to an additional 9 months in
bottle. Capitel Croce is pale yellow in color with a fruit forward nose
that exhibits subtle nuances of French oak followed by rich, persistent
flavors on the palate.
A native of the area, Roberto Anselmi felt an emotional as well as
professional commitment to tapping the unrealized potential of the wine
he grew up with. Over the past decade, he has been quietly
revolutionizing the way Anselmi Soave is made and marketed,
transforming it from a pleasant, "easy-drinking" wine into a premium
white that has been favorably compared to fine, French Chablis. In 2000
Roberto Anselmi, feeling that Soave's DOC laws promote over-production
and mediocre quality, made the bold decision to produce his wines
outside of the Soave Appellation.
"Pretty aromas of apricot, white flowers, almond and hazelnut.
Dense and ripe on the palate, with flavors of soft citrus fruits,
pineapple, hazelnut and almond... An impressively concentrated example
of garganega. The name Soave doesn't appear on the label as Anselmi
opted out of the association of Soave producers years ago, choosing to
make wines of much greater concentration and richer mouth feel-very
different in style from most other Soaves on the market."
