The basic cuvee of traditional Chateauneuf du Pape, the 2006 is a blend
of 75% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and the rest Mourvedre. Pure kirsch liqueur
notes intermix with lavender, pepper, and some loamy soil notes, and
are followed by a deep, dense wine with outstanding potential.
Full-bodied, with soft tannins and low acidity, it should drink
beautifully for 12-15 years.
Brilliant
wines from the northernmost sector of Chateauneuf du Pape emerge from
the Chaussy family, and in 2006 they have added a third cuvee which
looks sensational although somewhat unusual in that it is 100%
Mourvedre cuvee aged in demi-muids and barrels. Rated 92 by Robert Parker
