Tasting Notes

Vibrant crimson red, with young purple hue. Satsuma plums, blackberries and raspberries are supported by vanilla and spice on the nose with undertones of licorice. A rich fruit style wine explodes on the palate with well-supported oak integration uplifting the vibrant red fruit and cassis characters. Nuances of spice and pepper add to this food friendly wine.

Awards, Reviews and other Notes

Ruby-red. Dark berry preserves on the nose, with gentle spice and herb notes adding interest. Juicy and on the simple side, offering sweet blackberry and cassis flavors and no obvious tannins. Not the last word in complexity, but this boasts highly appealing fruit and is accessible now.

Winemaker Notes

The 2006 vintage started with warm days in early summer allowing the grapes to produce intense flavor and color early in the season which then turned cooler, resulting in good natural acid retention and a long ripening period. The various blocks of grapes were harvested in the weeks of March at full ripeness and crushed into open fermenters. They were pumped over twice daily during the cool fermentation temperature of 24-26 degrees to retain fruit intensity and color. Once fermentation was complete the skins were pressed in our air-bag press and this portion blended with the free-run, before being transferred to seasoned barrels to complete malolactic fermentation. All barrels were racked twice during their 12 month maturation period before the most fruit driven parcels were chosen for blending and bottling on the Estate’s own bottling line. The wine is bottled under screw caps to retain the fresh, fruitfulness of the wine as intended by the winemakers.
