Vinoptima Gewurztraminer 'Ormond Reserve' 2003 ---Best New World White, Decanter 750ml

Vinoptima Estate is situated on the East Coast of New Zealand’s North Island, 26 kilometers inland from Gisborne on Ngakoroa Road in Ormond, just off the main Gisborne to Opotiki road.  Under the direction and winemaking of Nick Nobilo, Vinoptima is a vineyard and winery dedicated to the production of a single wine: a world-class, 100% Gewurztraminer made from grapes grown entirely on the estate.

"Vivid, generous style has enough restraint to keep the spice, lychee and apricot flavors reined into a nice, taut package, with extraordinarily well-balanced flavors. It's focused and long, with a slightly bitter bite on the finish, but the flavors are so generous it doesn't matter. Drink now through 2012. 1,500 cases made. –HS"  The Wine Spectator, Nov. 30, 2005.

"Spurrier’s Choice, Best New World White – Vinoptima Estate Gewurztraminer, New Zealand 2003. Nick Nobilo’s aim is to make New Zealand’s finest Gewurztraminer. His first vintage is spot on: pale gold, pure rose petal and lychee nose, superb vineyard fruit, exotic and off-dry, but with a fresh acidity that brings out the complexity. As good as top Alsace grand crus."  Stephen Spurrier, DECANTER, Sep. 2005.
