| "Pristine aromas of tangerine, melon and grapefruit overlie slightly dusty, nutty, waxy and mineral nuances, with subliminal suggestions of wheatmeal and vanilla. Round and smooth, its juicy core of citrus and melon flavour is neatly trimmed by an underlying powdery minerality and a tangy, lemony acidity. Long, austere and shapely, finishing taut and stylish, it finishes with lingering a lemon sherbet-like aspect. Very classy, and made without a single barrel of new oak. "Yellow-gold. Fresh lime, pear and tangerine aromas are complicated by gentle lees and buttered toast. Fresh citrus and pear flavors are given flesh by sweet butter and macadamia, with slow-mounting acidity providing energy and clarity. Not a fat style but well-concentrated, showing an array of citrus fruit and floral honey notes on the long, spicy finish." 92 pts, Josh Raynolds, Stephen Tanzer's IWC, Jul/Aug 07.
"Bright, tangy and immensely appealing for its lime-accented pear and apple flavors. A tight mouthful that lets its flavors build in layers, lingering on the lively finish. This is a 180-degree turn for this wine. Earlier vintages tended to emphasize richness and toasty oak, but this has nerve. Best from 2009 through 2014. 100 cases imported. –HS" 92 pts, The Wine Spectator, Sep 30, 2007.
"The 2004 Chardonnay “Yattarna” was sourced from Drumborg (92%) and Adelaide Hills (8%). No new oak was used in the elevage (unlike the 2003 which spent time in 70% new oak). Light gold-colored, it reveals a smoky, mineral-accented perfume along with green apple, white peach, and tropical fruit elements. This leads to a full-bodied, round, mouth-filling Chardonnay with tropical fruit flavors buttressed by lively acidity, and a long, fruit-filled finish. This is the finest example of Yattarna Chardonnay to date." 91 pts, Jay Miller, Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate, Oct. 2007. | |
