Wolf Blass Shiraz 'Platinum Label' 1999 -RP 91 points 750ml
| The opaque purple-colored 1999 Shiraz Platinum Label (which will not be released for another year) is a dense, full-bodied example revealing notes of new saddle leather, peppery black cherries, blackberries, and cassis. A classic Barossa Shiraz aged in 100% French oak, this superb wine should drink well for 15-20 years.
--Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate, October 2002.
The 1999 Wolf Blass Platinum Label Shiraz was sourced from two renowned vineyards in South Australia’s great Barossa region. The majority of the fruit is sourced from the Hutton Vale vineyard in the Eden Valley. These 50-year-old vines are only minimally irrigated and very low yielding. The balance of the fruit was sourced from a vineyard in Tanunda in the heart of the Barossa Valley. Similarly these vines are low yielding and minimally irrigated with an average age of 60 years. Sourcing fruit from these two regions allowed the winemaker to combine the elegant structure of the Eden Valley fruit with the rich Barossa Valley fruit offering great depth of flavour and a wine of great balance and structure.www.wolfblass.com.au | |
