Viking Asarna (Red Blend) 1998 -RP 88 points 750ml

$29.99
2 available

The 1998 Asarna Proprietary Red is an intriguing blend of two-thirds Pinot Noir and one-third Shiraz. Bottled unfiltered, it possesses 90-point aromatics. Dark dense ruby/purple-colored, with a sweet, floral nose of cherry liqueur and raspberries, the Pinot Noir characteristics are well-displayed, and the Shiraz gives the wine spice, pepper, and dense body and volume. Excellent, possibly outstanding, it displays a Burgundian-like texture and weight.--Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate, February 2000.

Based upon 50-year old dry-grown and near-organic vineyards with a yield of only 1-1.5 tonnes per acre, Viking Wines has been 'discovered' by Robert Parker, with inevitable consequences for the price of its top Shiraz. There are 5 hectares of shiraz and 3 of cabernet sauvignon....The immensely experienced Rolf Binder is contract winemaker for this operation, which sells its wine through several retailers in Sydney and Melbourne, and exports to the U.S., Europe, and Japan. James Halliday's Australian Wine Companion, 2005 edition.
