Jasper Hill Shiraz 'Georgia's Paddock' 1996 --Jeremy Oliver 94 pts, James Halliday 94 pts, WS 94 pts 750ml

Surprisingly approachable given its extreme youth, this is one of the sweetest, fleshiest and most early-maturing Georgia's Paddocks yet released, although there's certainly no need to hurry. Highly spiced, with concentrated raspberry, cherry and plum-like fruit, it integrates beautifully with creamy American oak. Deliciously supple and elegant, the wine finishes with fine-grained and fully-ripened tannins. (18.2, Drink 2001-2004.) --Jeremy Oliver 10.01.97

Dense red-purple; a powerful, clean bouquet redolent of blackberry, liquorice, briar and earth fruit is followed by an equally powerful palate with ripe black cherry and mint fruit and appropriately strong tannins. Minimal oak influence throughout. Built to live forever. --James Halliday, February 1, 1998.

Lush, supple and distinctive, offering layers of earthy spice, deep blackberry and black currant, with hints of earth and exotic pepper notes swirling through the finish. Flavors last and last. Drink now through 2010. 99 cases imported. (HS) --Wine Spectator, August 31st, 1998.
