Yarra Yering 'Dry Red No. 2' 2001 --Jeremy Oliver 96 pts, RP 93 pts 750ml

Astonishingly aromatic and spicy viognier perfume of apricot blossom with sweet shiraz aromas of cassis and mulberries over integrated cedar/vanilla oak and suggestions of fennel and star anise. Silky-smooth, supple and multi-layered palate revealing essence-like cassis, plum and mulberry flavours intermeshed with fine-grained oak and framed by velvet-like tannins. Excellent length and balance. 18.9, drink 2009-2013+, ($55 [AUD] ex cellar). --Jeremy Oliver, 06.18.0

The 2001 Dry Red Number 2 is a blend of 95% Shiraz and small quantities of such white varietals as Marsanne and Viognier. Complex, exotic, sultry aromas of marmalade, white, red, and black fruits, acacia flowers, pepper, and licorice are followed by a smoky, opulent wine with great delineation, admirable overall structure, beautiful purity, and undeniable personality as well as exuberance, all delivered in an incremental build-up on the palate. While the most accessible of this portfolio, it promises to drink well for 10-15+ years.--Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate, October 2004.
