Obsidian Red 1998 --5 Stars Winestate, 4 1/2 Stars Michael Cooper 750ml
| "Stylish Waiheke Island red, based principally on cabernet sauvignon (67%) and merlot (30%), and matured in French and American oak barriques (half new). Full coloured wine with generous, sweet fruit characters. Blackcurrant and spice flavours seasoned by quality oak and braced by firm, ripe tannins. Lasting finish. Elegantly structured wine, still youthful." Winestate Magazine Australia. Nov/Dec 2000.
"...the (Obsidian) 1998 vintage is already attractive, with full colour, good weight and plenty of plum/spice flavour, strongly seasoned with oak." Michael Cooper, "Michael Cooper's Buyer's Guide to New Zealand Wines 2001".
