JULY 2009

Saturday, July 11th: Twitter Taste Live! feat. St. Supéry

A 2008 Wine & Spirits Magazine Winery Of The Year

At St. Supéry, winemaking is in the blood. While traveling in Napa Valley during the 1970s, owner Robert Skalli - whose family has made wine in the South of France for three generations- was inspired to create an estate winery in Napa Valley dedicated to wines of distinct and respectable character. The Dollarhide vineyard, an historic cattle and horse ranch nestled among the hills of Napa Valley, was planted with the noble Bordeaux varieties in the early 1980s, while the Rutherford property became the home of the winery and their first class Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards.

St. Supéry winemaker Michael Scholz hails from the opposite hemisphere and is the 6th generation to grow up on on his family's vineyard in Australia's Barossa Valley. During his tenure, he has created the distinctive style that has made St. Supéry the benchmark for Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc. The Cabernet Sauvignons Michael created for St. Supéry also garnered critical acclaim with five Cabernets securing 90+ scores from the Wine Spectator. World-renowned oenologist and consultant, Michel Rolland says, “Michael Scholz is on my list of great winemakers from around the world.”

The steward of 510 acres of prime Napa Valley vineyards, St. Supéry farms according to sustainable viticultural practices, including use of cover crops, estate composting, and natural predators. Admirably, one hundred percent of St. Supéry’s water use is reclaimed from rainfall.  Not one drop comes from a municipal water source, including the water used in wine production, their Visitors Center and landscaping.  Talk about operating off the grid!

Our 2nd "live" Twitter Taste Live will feature St. Supéry Sauvignon Blanc, white blend "Virtú", Moscato, Cabernet Sauvignon and red blend, "Élu". Come join us to taste and tweet, or just to taste. Folks from the winery will be on hand to answer your questions both virtual and IRL. Oh, and if you wanna know what the shizzle Taste Live! is all about, click the logo below for info.
